About Kopperston, WV
Kopperston is a small unincorporated town in Wyoming County, located in south central West Virginia. It's known for its coal mines like much of West Virginia is. The town was named for Koppers Coal Company in 1938 and was one of the last company built coal camps to go up in Appalachia. The town has more of a small town feel to it than that of a coal camp because the company took the time to build homes that didn't necessarily look just alike. The coal company shut down in 1997 and today you will find small businesses like Daniels Floral and Gifts and the Stop and Shop Packette. Local schools are located in nearby Oceana, as most children attend either Berlin McKinney Elementary School‎, Oceana Middle School or Westside High School.
