I just wanted to comment on the tire review left by Daniel. If you were told $180 plus tax, and was charged $199.40, what are you complaining about? Tax itself is $9.90! So now we are at $189.9. So that leaves $9.50 for disposal of the tires. You said you wanted to buy local im guessing to help out the local community. But instead you haggled the price and then complained about $9.50! This humble, reliable repair shop deserves to be busier, but I was so happy they could fit me in the same day I called. My tail lights had stopped working and I'd already spent an hour underneath my 1990 Ford Ranger figuring out what the problem wasn't. When I finally found the garage with its barely visible "Verona Service" sign set back off the parking lot beside CarStar, a friendly, respectful mechanic named Luke listened to me describe the electrical situation, and said he'd check it out as soon as he finished the job he was on. An hour and a half later, he called to say he'd traced the wire back and found a corroded break in the truck's original wiring. I appreciated that when he gave me the estimate and asked me if I wanted him to go ahead and do the work, it really sounded like a question--like he assumed I might want to patch the wire myself. One of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. Not only did the shop do shoddy work on a trailer modification, but the owner started to scream at me when I pointed out the problem and then stomped off shouting that:" he didn't have time for this". The office staff apologized profusely for his behavior, but acknowledged that he owned the place and could do as he pleased. I was on the verge of making a $4,000 plow purchase when this occurred. I called another store to get prices for the tires I wanted. I decided to buy local instead of the store I called (even though it would be a little more expensive)so I called Avenue Auto Clinic to get a quote on tires. The guy quoted me $194 for 2 tires including installation, tax, etc. I bargained with him and we agreed that I would pay $180+tax (about a $10 difference from the $194 quote). Once I got my receipt , I noticed he charged $180 for the tires, plus other misc. charges (shop, labor, and haz. mat. fees) coming out to $199.40. I do not like to argue, so I left it as is. I felt like I was taken advantage of and mislead on the price that I would be paying. This experience has discouraged me from thinking about buying locally next time. ...read more
