Urban Arts Exposure teaches their classes through the recreation department in my town and I was very happy to find them. My daughters enjoyed the Hip Hop Kids class so much, they asked me to sign them up for another session after their very first class! Ms. Lauren is great with the kids and she uses kid-friendly music and dance moves. We'll definitely be back! ...read more

Meet the Owner!

My experience in The Arts began in the most typical of ways: Tutu-ridden dance classes at a local studio with my sisters. I was sick to death of tulle and the color pink by the tender age of 7, so I quit dance in favor of roller hockey. It wasn't until a few years later that The Arts called my name once again. I walked into my local library on a January afternoon and saw a poster, thumb-tacked to a bulletin board, announcing auditions for Singin' in the Rain. Now, both of my parents are performers; so naturally, my siblings and I had a solid knowledge of musical theatre. I was beyond excited. A chance to sing songs I'd known by heart for most of my life... in front of an audience? It was like a dream come true. My fertile, 11 year old imagination produced visions of handsome boys gazing lovingly down at me, singing the words to "Lucky Star" in soft, gorgeous tenor. After several hours of begging, I convinced my mother to take me to the audition. With all three of my younger siblings in tow, we arrived late. Lucky for me, I had seen the movie so many times I already knew the words to the audition song. There I was, in front of a crowd of my peers, the hood of my coat covering my face, trembling with anxiety. The show's director leaned forward in her seat, an encouraging smile spreading across her face. "You don't need that hood, do you?" she said in a friendly voice. I silently shook my head 'no' and pulled the hood back from my face. The accompanist gave me a wink and a smile, and played a two bar lead-in. I sang the entire song with my eyes on the floor. But, five days later, I was offered a role in the ensemble and given the opportunity to understudy a supporting character. At age 11, Ms. Lauren appeared in a local production of Singin' in the Rain The changes in my personality (brought about from being offered a role of any kind, and in my favorite musical, too!) were apparent immediately. The huge boost in confidence showed itself in the large group of new friends I made. I began to hold myself in higher esteem, because I was an Understudy (yes, I totally thought of the word as a title, with a capital letter LOL). I had one of the most important jobs to do in the show; learning all of my own songs and dances, in addition to those of the supporting role, "just in case". That rather ominous phrase kept me on my toes, and my hard work paid off: I got to perform the role I studied during a dress rehearsal when the original cast member was out sick. Singin' in the Rain was the first of nearly 20 musical theatre productions I appeared in over the course of my childhood, and my love of The Arts has grown every single day since. Some of my most valuable knowledge and friendships were earned on the stage.  And musical theatre became a gateway to a passion I thought I'd outgrown: Dance. ...read more

the music business

many years ago the music business seemed complicated in terms of trying to understand all the jargon that the industry presidents and head hancho's would print up in contracts..well of course most of that work was worded by lawyers and attorneys, and in still many cases it has to be even today..i have come up with a project thats absolutely understandable as well as absolutely affordable..this of course is directed to those of you out there that are either musicians singer-songwritters,producers,arrangers etc...that would like to find a better solution to either getting bigger and better royalties..more creative freedom in your written work..and not have to deal with the big words and complicated committments to a big time record label or company ,and the answer to that is having your own record label in a very understandable format....why not take a look at what iam talking about..and go to http://thetman.stolting1.hop.clickbank.net tell me what you think in this blog about it ...read more
