Inventory clearance sale

We've consolidated our inventory andYOUget the benefits of our efforts. WHERE: Marling HomeWorks, 1138 Highway 14, Janesville WHEN: Friday, Feb. 11; from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 12; from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Special attractions on Friday - WJVL's Justin Brown will be doing a live remote from 11:30 a.m - 1:30 p.m. and Matt's Dog House will be there to supply the edible goodies. Special attractions on both Friday AND Saturday - deals too good to miss. Including - dozens and dozens of cabinets in different colors and styles. There are a few scratch and dents - but nearly all are overstock items. Don't limit yourself to thinking just "cabinet" - they are great for bookcases if you take the doors off, you can use them to reduce clutter and put them in a closet. Put several together and add a countertop (we've got butcher block that can be ordered to size!!) and make yourself a kitchen island - use your imagination... We also have cabinet doors that can be used as decorative panels (see Facebook posthttp://www.facebook.com/marlingco?v=wall - Friday, Feb. 4) and we've got some corbels and newel posts. We've got marble countertops for bath vanities. We have interior doors - pre-hung and slab; exterior doors including storm doors and patio doors and windows, windows and more windows - everything from casement to bay windows. We've got stainless steel sinks and decorative molding and beautiful overstock glass inserts for doors, transoms and sidelites. We've also got internal blind windows (blinds between two glass panes for doors) - and - a Blue Star drop-in cooktop! This 30-inch drop-in top has four burners including the simmer burner with slide over grates so full pots can be pushed from the front burner to the back without spilling a drop. ...read more

DIY kitchen island

As kitchens evolve into gathering spaces, the kitchen island becomes the focal point. Traditional islands have storage space as well as a counter area for prep work. With the advent of more built-ins - you can put a cooktop, grill or even a deep fryer or wok into the kitchen island. You can get pull out freezer or refrigerator drawers, put in a wine cooler or store food, pots and pans and dishes. Buying an island means spending from about $400 to over $1,000. But it is possible to build your own island. Put several small cabinets back to back, or use a larger 48" long cabinet. Put on a top and - you've got an island. It can be topped with a special ordered granite or marble or - butcher block tops can be ordered to standard sizes. If you buy plain cabinets, you can dress up your island with ornate cabinet hardware. You can use millwork or molding, available at Marling HomeWorks or Marling Lumber, to put decorative edges on the island or put on corbels. Buy baseboard if you want to add a bottom edge. If you just want one larger cabinet with storage on one side, use a sheet of wood at the back and stain it to match. Or, if you want a more decorative back - buy cabinet doors and just mount them to the back. That way, the back will match the front or provide some architectural detail. Or, remove the cabinet doors, exposing the shelves for storage and mount those doors on the back of the island. Right now we've got dozens and dozens of cabinets out on the sale floor at our Janesville HomeWorks location. You could buy island cabinets for $100 or so and order a butcher block top. Or, buy the cabinets and put a top on them for a baby changing station - the possibilities are endless Be chic and save! ...read more

Glass adds charisma

One way to add curb appeal and charisma to your house is to consider changing the glass or adding glass to the front door. Glass insets for doors, sidelites and transoms add light to foyers and entryways for dramatic affect. In addition to a myriad of patterns and etchings, glass can be ordered smoked or rippled to add privacy in addition to light. Using smoked glass in the sidelites and clear in the center can add drama and artistic appeal to a doorway. Most doors can be retrofitted with glass inserts even if the original door is solid and/or paned. The newer glass inserts are also sturdier glass which not only helps with energy efficiency, but also with safety. At Marling HomeWorks in Janesville, we have overstock and discontinued glass insets in a variety of patterns and styles on sale - some as low as $53.  At our locations in Madison on East Washington Avenue and Stoughton Road, you can order glass inserts, too. And if your going to change up the personality of your door with some glass - may we also suggest spending just a little more and adding new hardware including hinges and door knobs to really dress it up nicely ...read more
