I stopped in to ask directions. It was only polite to buy something. I purchased a two piece gift box and was anxious to have a special treat. Upon opening the box, I noticed the light chocolate was a little gray. But, I took a bite. Yuck. It was old and hard. I set it aside. Then I took a bite of the other dark chocolate. It was better but not up to Boehm's standards. (As I was in my vehicle traveling, I now have a misplaced, half eaten piece of chocolate in a warm car.) The following day I called the owner simply to inform her the quality of her product was not up to par and she needed to check her little boxes. However, she denied my poor experience, treated me horribly on the phone and was sullenly rude. Obviously, she does not value comments or opportunities to discuss the mater. I am the owner of Boehm's Candies of Yakima. I am sorry to read about the negative experience in my store. That is certainly not the way that I have operated my business for 23 years. During holiday times, we typically see 150 customers per day, and while we do our best to maintain personal contact with each customer, we do pack boxes, stock shelves and clean when not waiting on the next store patron. I sincerely apologize if anyone feels slighted by any employee of our store. We are entirely run by family, and most of us are working 6 days a week during holidays. "Not the Boehm's I know" didn't say if they were a regular customer, so I am concerned about this negative post based on one bad experience in my store. It was dark, the employee behind the counter kept her back to the store, and there was absolutely no greeting or offer to help. I wandered through two times (there was also at least one other employee in the back). I asked if they had any of the items I was looking for. The employee at the counter said they were "on the shelf". I wandered again for a bit and was finally asked if I'd found them. When I said no, she through her arm out from over the counter, pointing, and said straight ahead. That was my customer service. After looking at the chocolate for a few minutes I left. I've used Boehms in Issaquah, especially for my Easter baskets, for the last 10 years. I was so befuddled by the lack of service in a specialty shop just before a holiday, that I had to get it off my chest. I looked on line to confirm that the Yakima location is not owned by Boehms (didn't think it could possibly be).
