Pacific Boatland
By ErikMendenhall September 04, 2012
I had some mechanical troubles with my boat. Pacific Boatland is a certified Supreme dealer and repair shop. After the boat was there for almost a week they told me that it needed a new transmission. (The boat is only 6 years old with 250 hours on it). They then told me that the transmission was on back order and they could not get it. This went on for over 3 weeks. Finally I decided to pick the boat up and bring it home rather than sit outside in their yard exposed to the elements. After another week of waiting for this supposed transmission that it needed and they couldn't get I began calling other shops to get their input. Two other shops told me they could get the transmission within 2-3 days. I took it to one of these shops. This company thought it best to properly and thoroughly inspect the transmission before making a $5000-$6000 repair to the boat. After pulling the engine and tearing down the transmission they found that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I called Pacific Boatland to find out how they were able to diagnose that the transmission needed to be replaced. I was told "they heard a noise."As a result of their mis-diagnosis, I ended up being without my boat for all of July and all of August....the only nice weather months we have in the pacific northwest. After a number of calls and complaints they reimbursed me the $200 they charged me for the mis-diagnosis. The owner was supposed to call me about this issue and never bothered to. The shop that I eventually took the boat to had to charge me $700 for pulling the engine, tearing down the transmission, and making a proper diagnosis of it. They said they would have never done this if the other shop wouldn't have said that it needed a new transmission in the first place. ...read more

Mt-n-Man Chia Bar
Chia Seed: Ten Benefits from this Power Food and Brain Food By Christopher WestraSource:Harmony Earth 30 Day Energy Diet Do you want to increase your brain power and body strength with one of the most powerful foods imaginable? Chia seed imparts power and energy to the user. I've used it for years. Here are ten benefits to using chia seed in your life. Chia seeds are: 1. Nutritious. Chia seed provides ample calcium and protein to your tissues. The seeds are also rich in boron, which helps the body assimilate and use calcium. The nutrients also support proper brain functioning. 2. Water loving. The seed can soak up ten times its weight in water. Do this fun experiment. Put one tablespoon of chia seed in a cup of water and stir. Wait a few hours and see what happens. When inside your body, the seeds help you stay hydrated longer, and retain electrolytes in your bodily fluids. 3. Easily digestible. The shells are easily broken down, even when swallowed whole. This is an improvement over flax seed, which have to be ground up to be digested properly. If you eat flax seed whole, it will just pass through. 4. Concentrated. If I could only take one cup of food for a few days, I'd choose chia! The food value per volume is simply astounding. You don't need much. 5. Mild tasting. Unlike some seeds, the flavor is very mild. The mild taste makes it easy to put in sauces, smoothies, breads, puddings, and whatever you want. They won't really change the taste, but will add to your nutrition! 6. Energy enhancing. The health pioneer Paul Bragg did an experiment an endurance hike with friends. They divided up into a chia-eating group and another group, who ate whatever they wanted. The group eating only chia seeds finished the hike four hours, twenty seven minutes before the others, most of whom didn't even finish at all. 7. Versatile. The seeds can be used to replace less-healthy fat in just about any recipe. You can use them uncooked in salad dressings, spreads, fruit shakes, ice cream, and just about anything you want. You can also add them to cookies, cakes, muffins, and other baked goods. I usually just mix in a couple of teaspoons to my juice or water and drink them down! 8. Slimming and trimming. Yes, the seeds will help you lose weight, for two reasons. The first reason is that they are so filling that you will eat less of other foods. The second reason is that they actually bulk up and cleanse your body of old "junk" in your intestines. 9. Endurance enhancing. Chia seeds are known as the "Indian Running Food". Also, the ancient Aztec warriors used chia seed during their conquests. I'm a runner, and I've used chia seed to enhance stamina and endurance on my mountain runs, some of which are several hours long! 10. Regenerating. After eating, the nutrients travel to the cells very quickly due to the ease in digestion and assimilation. Use them when you want to build or regenerate healthy body tissue. What this left me with was energy bars and power bars: both of which I did not like . So, as a chef I decided that I could make energy bars that tasted great. The second reason I decided to make the bars was that at the time all the bars were to expensive for me. Any money I did have I mainly saved to be able to afford to go skiing . When I was out on the hill friends or people riding the lift with me would ask where I got my energy bar. I would give them one and tell them that I make them. Every one after tasting them said "these are really good." People at work said "that energy bar looks good where did you get it?" After letting them try some people started to say "you should sell these they are great." Because I know these people I thought that they are biased because they know me. After the same thing happened at my next job I decided that I really should start to try and market my bars.I remembered that SCORE helped people get started in business. I went to them and they helped me out some. Then I saw a food network show that had fantastic start up businesses that had won awards. One of them was “Ruby Jewel Treats” and they had won the O.S.U. food fight. So I tried to find out when the next food fight was and ended up taking the class “Getting Your Recipe To Market” at the SBDC.My MissionMt-n-Man Chia Bar is located in of Vancouver, Wa.
