Pianos have been part of his life since he started taking piano lessons when he was 6 years old. He went on to major in music at Valley City State University in North Dakota, where one day he saw a hand written flyer on a bulletin board that read, "Local Piano Tuner Needed." Looking for some extra money Loibl responded to the ad, and began working as an assistant to a piano tuner who was in his 70s looking to retire.
