Frequency analysis in Lottery
Frequency analysisis a process of studying the frequency of appearance of a certain number or a pattern in the lottery drawing in order to predict the nextwinning numbersfor the lottery. But the question is that is the randomness predictable? Renato Gianella, a Brazillian mathematician claims that thewinning lottery numbersare predictable. His theory is based on the patterns as predicted by Law of Large numbers and it’s tested on about 20 lotteries around the world. These predictions are the results of the lottery draws by applying complicated maths and probability theories. He calls his study “The Geometry of Chance.” With such studies and findings, it makes us question, is lottery really random? Or is it possible to predict the exact winning (or at least pattern) numbers? According to Renato Gianella, “lottery should no longer be seen as a form of gambling as it is a true representation of the probabilistic theory and the Law of Large numbers.” The mathematician wrote a book which offers help to the players to select the numbers/combinations more likely to appear in the next draw. However, they are not quite successful in delivering the exact six numbers to be drawn as result, rather they offer a bunch of combination which MIGHT appear in the next draw. It is certainly not easy to grasp the concept and the readers may need a maths degree themselves to understand the readings. It allows people to view the likelihood of different numbers being drawn and the theory is based on previous draws and patterns which arise from them. According to the book, the frequentist notion can state the combinations of certain numbers that are more likely to win than others according to probability. In addition, as predicted by the Law of Large Numbers, when an event is repeated more than once, the average of the results from all events should be close to the expected results. Therefore, games of any kind (including lottery) in which repetitions are bound to occur are the ideal study subject for the probabilities and combinations.
