Roanoke's storied hot dog vender's (you can guess the name) fare cannot compare with Sam's hot dogs. The atmosphere is likely to transport you to mid-twentieth century America. A tall former Navy cook and his young associates hustle all day long preparing dogs, fries and bar-be-que for walk-up and drive-thru customers. My wife, who cooks my favorite bar-be-que, says Sam's is her fave. The hot dogs (get the one with chili, oinions, mustard and slaw) are nestled into a steamed bud and smothered in tasty condiments.
