Agees Bicycle Co

I only live a mile and a half from work, so I decide to save gas money and buy a bike. The radio had been telling me for months that Agges Bicycles "Bring's out the best in you". My wife and I are out shopping one day and we stop at the bike in Target and Wal-Mart. Not wanting a Wal-Mart special, I ask my wife if we can go to a real bike shop. That way I can ensure I am getting a bike that will last.\t\nI was sore from running the day before while getting sized up on my bike (I had some difficulty getting my leg over the bar, but eventually did), I took the salemans word that the size bike I was about to purchase was the proper size. I prepay (I had to special order the bike since the only color carried of the bike I wanted was a rust color) for a bike that is a decent color and leave my home and cell numbers on the order sheet. I was told it would be ready in 10-14 days and they would be sure to give me a call.\t\nFast forward fourteen days.\t\nI call the Midlothian location to check on my bike since I've heard squat from them. They ask me for my last name and say "It's been ready for days now and we haven't been able to get ahold of you". I politely apologize and inform them that I am on my way to pick up my bike and that I am excited to finally ride it.\t\nI arrive and all of the employees are gathered at the front counter, to include the saleman that sold me the bike. They ask if they can assist me and I inform them that I am there to pick up my bike. A gentleman asks me for my last name, goes to a drawer, pulls a ticket from a drawer, then walks to the back of the store. A minute or so later he walks up with a small, womens bike, with misaligned handlebars and large patches of rust. I ask the gentleman if he is kidding and he says "No, this is your bike." After asking for a refund of my $400 dollars for a brand new bike, the employee admonishes me for not specifying that I was there for a brand new bike. Not amused, I picked up my bike and packed it in the car.\t\nArriving home, I inspected the bike. Im no bike mechanic, but I am certain that I am missing mounting screws and my shifters are not adjusted properly. Every time I shift gears I either throw the chain onto the frame or the ground. Its push button shifters, pushing the button should not cause that. I don't even want to leave it with them so they can fix it, lord knows what could happen then. ...read more

I decided to make the jump from my 8 year old Fuji Newest road bike to something more up to date. Ended up south of the river at the Agee's Bicycle Midlothian Turnpike location. I was greeted by Will and Brian who proceeded to show me a eye opening collection of Trek carbon bikes. I was almost swayed by a sweet deal on a Kestrel product but ended up sticking to my guns and going with the Trek Madone 4.7. Thought for sure I'd end up w/ a 4.5, but Agee's pricing put the nicer 4.7 at what I thought I would spend on the 4.5. I was unsure of what size to go with (my Fuji purchased at a NOVA shop never felt quite right on a fit level) but Will pulled got the bike set up in a trainer, pulled out some interesting fit tools, and fitted me to the bike. During the process he pointed out why he was making certain adjustments and how that would affect my riding. End result was a 56 cm bike with a slightly shorter, more upright stem. The bike works awesome! Light, responsive, and I'm far more comfortable than I ever was on my Fuji.\t\n\t\nIn synopsis, this was a great experience and I look forward to a long relationship with these guys. I've already visited the W. Broad store as well (picked up some Pearl Izumi Elite shorts) and the experience was much the same as the southside store--Courteous, and knowledgeable. Thanks guys! ...read more
