MMA Institute
By Friendrva at Citysearch January 15, 2012
I only have one regret and that is not joining sooner! This place has an amazing staff of dedicated, friendly, and talented martial artist and fitness experts. They even have a nutritionist on staff to help with weight loss and fighters diets. I am just an average guy that enjoys the training for fitness, but it is so cool to train next to some of the best pro fighters in the state and in the country. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. \t\nI have tried several other schools in the area and like I said my only regret is not joining the family at MMA Institute sooner! Everyone joins martial arts schools for different reasons but if you truly want to train with the best you should give them a try. ...read more

A big "Thank You" for Memorial Day
I personally want to give out a big "Thank You" on this Memorial Day. I am humbled by the great sacrifices given by others to make our way of life as free and enjoyable as it is. I would like to thank the following folks:First, to the men and women who have died serving in our country's military. Not just the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, but also our Reservists have been called into duty to pay the ultimate sacrifice. There aren't medals enough to honor their gift to our country.Second, to the first responders who work to keep our daily lives safe. Many of whom have also given their lives in service. Specifically to the police and fire fighters who put themselves in harms way to protect us and keep us safe. There is no award that can truly state how precious their sacrifice is to us.Lastly, even though we cannot "memorialize" them, I would like to thank the families of those who we honor today on Memorial Day. The gap that is left when a parent dies unexpectantly leaving a spouse and children behind or the sudden loss of a child on the field of battle is more than I can imagine. I appreciate your sacrifice and thank you for gift to those who don't even know you.Thank you. ...read more

Make Labor Day Work for You
Did you make Labor Day work for your business this year? Some of us will say that giving employees a day off at the end of the summer is great for morale, until you see them come in today, the first day of school for many kids in Virginia. The holiday gave them a day to prepare, but some will be tired on the first work day this week. Others will say that we had a great sale this weekend. Our employees will take time this week to re-energize and recover from serving many customers. I was one of those shoppers this weekend and could not believe how many people were packing the parking lots. Unfortunately, many of us probably forgot the purpose for the holiday -- to honor workers for the job they do. At this time it is very difficult for some to honor employees with raises or more benefits. In fact, many businesses are just trying to find ways not to lay people off to protect the business from having to close and sending everyone to the unemployment lines. I would like to encourage every employer to remember those who help you keep your business working, from the overachiever to the ones who just punch in and do the minimum to get by. We would all love to have those maximum performers on our lines to increase our performance and make our businesses excell. You can make everyone on your team feel valued and encourage them to do better without having to take a big chunk out of your budget. Give your employees something to let them know that you appreciate them. Personally, I would recommend that you go to my website and purchase personalized awards. We have inexpensive items that can be purchased as low as a couple of dollars each. Many organizations will even have "fun" awards to recognize quirks or unusual habits that make that employee unique. The "employee of the month" and other titles are great for recognizing those who have brought value to your business. I have seen things as small as a cup of coffee or a candy bar brought to an employee with the comment, "Thanks for doing a great job," have done wonders to improve the morale of employees. But it is important to recognize those employees who are helping your business to succeed. They will appreciate the fact that times are tough and raises and bonuses may not be here now. Giving them something now to recognize their work will help them to feel more appreciated and willing to give back to the business that acknowledges thier contribution. You can even call it a "raincheck" when times are better and their is more money for raises and bonuses. ...read more
