TAKES OVER 2 Years ago, if you had $100.00 a month in your Adword's account, that was plenty to get you on page one. Not any more. I am speaking on average and of course, as always, there are exceptions. About a year and a half ago, I put up aDiscountWatchesUSA.comwebsite where I sold watches from a drop ship company. My profits go to the ASPCA and Humane Society. The competition is fierce but we are USA and free shipping. So, we sold about 30 watches a month. Nothing to get rich by, but it helped the animal cause. Google Shopping Can't do it anymore. Why?A bulk of our traffic was coming fromGoogle Shopping. I had uploaded a list of our watches where they would display on Google Shopping. And, we had an Adwords account. 1.Merchant Account: Google stopped publishing our watches on Google Shopping without an explanation. I looked in the account Merchant Account and it said that the watches were not published but did not indicate why. I thought the data feed had a problem or some sort of technical glitch. I wrote Google Support and nothing but a canned response that they are looking into this. The short of it is, it took 3.5 months for them to tell us, they do not allow wholesalers who drop ship. When I created this account, that was not mentioned and the terms of service were updated. But that is NOT what I signed. How can you argue? 2.Adwords Account: Low quality landing page. Now, it had been fine for the previous 9 months, the same landing page. All of a sudden, no matter what keyword I entered, I got low relevnancey and low quality landing page. I sell watches, the keyword was 'watches', the landing was "Discount Watches" with brand names on the front page. How much quality or relevancy do you need?!!!You be the judge.DiscountWatchesUSA.com. Now, at the time, we had 60 brands. We sold watches with Timex, Skagen, Casio, and so on all over the home page. How relevant can you get?? Because Google wants content, we had to put some more fluff text. But yet, we were not relevant, and the previous 9 months, we were 100% relevant and 100% quality score.Google made a mistake !!!and that took 4.5 weeks to resolve without an apology, without maybe a $100 coupon they seem to so freely hand out, and no real explanation. This was prior to Christmas, the best selling time of the year. That did it. That was the straw that broke the camels back.Google cost my company thousands of dollars. Here's the problem. When you step into Adwords, you are now a paying customer. This isn't free, we pay for this. I expect better support as a paying customer. But no, they are equally as bad, if not worse than the free services. It is shameful and almost laughable had I not lost so much money. I couldn't believe it. You can't call them, you can email them, but they will come back with a canned email that they are working on it. We all make mistakes, but not answering, delaying and no explanation and it taking weeks, I mean weeks and months, it is not forgivable. This was not the first time, nor that last. A year ago, $100.00 a month was all I needed to be on page one. Today, it would cost $600.00 and they are blocking the organic searches. We were fine on Merchant Accounts under Google Shopping. Now you as a customer, will not see my store because Google decided my wholesaler who drop ships is not worthy. Why? You got free shipping. Business is all USA. Warehouse was in Texas. Brand name with warranties. BBB excellent ratings. But Google, yes Google decides drop shipping is not allowed. You loose the customer. We all lose. These are just the facts, not my opinion, but my experience. If you have an issue with your account, whether it Adwords, Merchant Account, or any other service, how was your experience? What is happening is that the bigger companies with the bigger marketing budgets are winning out. Just like newspapers, it is the business with the big bucks that can afford to put that quarter page ad on page one of the newspaper. Same thing here. Bing Adcenter even tells you in their tutorial that you should expect to pay a minimum of 500.00/ month. So Google, it is more like 800.00. You haveGoogle TagsandGoogle Boostwhich also adds another 25.00/ month, see: Google Tags and Google Boost. In addition, just like Adwords Google Boost is another form of PPC, which is an addition to your Adwords cost. Oh, did you want a map with that ad? There are only 12-13 places on page one of Google. This is premium real estate. Just like with any other advertiser, the ones with the bigger bucks win. 800.00/ month is generally too much for the small business person. Where it used to be only $100.00 as an adjunct to your organic search results, it is too much to pay for so little pay back. Google Takes Over, everyone else dies Crawlers and spammers come along and click and it costs you money.Ads are not really relevant. Now, it may be okay for general information, but ecommerce businesses are suffering. Where you might have been tempted as a business owner to run your own Adwords account. I would pay the extra $50.00 or$100.00/month for someone to manage it for you. Unless you are devoted to paying much time and energy on Google Adwords, Analytics, Webmaster and so on, you might be throwing your money down the drain. It is not for kids anymore. The great equalizer is no more. Please tell me your experience. Despite all of this, I have published many websites that are successful with the Google Adwords, but it wasn't easy. I had to create ads in other sites, I had to write articles, I had to write content on other sites which is very relevant, but if you only Tow Cars, then how much can you write? Sometimes you can have a very simple product and there isn't a lot to say. You want to advertise a towing service. This was perhaps the hardest, but most successful. I will tell you how in my next post. Before I close, I will say this,Microsoft Bing's Adcenter has excellent support.I can call, email or even chat real time. They want to help you. You can have them set it up, or they will work with you. One night, I was on the phone an hour with them and was trying to get off the phone. They were almost too helpful. Hats off to Bing.
