Color trends? Most people aren't going to be changing their color scheme every year. Understand the color trends and options for using color in your home that will stand the test of time. Trendy colors are an indicator of products we̢۪ll be seeing in the stores and going forward. Although its important to take note of trends, designing around the "in" color is not always a great idea. The colors in your home or office space need to endure beyond the transitory nature of whats "hot" right now. Color often needs compliment existing furnishing. Broader trends include greener living products. Ironically some of the current trends take us back to our simpler roots and the use of natural materials. Just for fun. Using the 2013 Color as a starting color, I have created 5 different color schemes. The first color scheme is a complimentary color scheme which uses colors directly opposed to each other on the color wheel. A triadic color scheme, using 3 colors is another "discordant" color scheme. These are high contrast bold design schemes. A split-complimentary color scheme uses 3 colors, one color and two directly adjacent to its compliment on the color wheel. More "harmonious" color combinations are the analogous color scheme, using colors adjacent on the color wheel and the monochromatic color scheme, using colors from the same hue, but with varying saturation or lightness. ...read more
