While most customers may think about the cost of professional translation services, there are many of them that are unaware of the risks and consequences of choosing the so-called inexpensive options. On several occasions, I have dealt with consumers that have already spent hundreds of dollars on bad translations. These customers have not only turned to family members but also to professionals that work as notaries or tax specialists. In any case, these people do not have the credentials or experience necessary to provide translation services. It would be like asking the plumber to check out your electrical wiring. Many do not understand the process of translation nor the implications of poorly translated documents, especially when dealing with legal and medical documents from foreign countries. When thinking about the cost of translation services, one should consider the additional costs associated with bad translations that I have been told by some of my customers: resubmitting forms to INS, denial of petitions/applications, and paying for services again.
