Its about population folks!! Life expectancy has increased by an estimated 7-8 years for baby boomers. This segment of the population will represent almost 1/3 rd, 90 million of all peoples in the US, in the next 30 years. We need to take heed to this number. Most of these folks won't be able to earn income, but need substantial income just to meet day to day financial obligations of becoming old. Sorry, that's just the plain truth. These are not the immigrants who drain the system in whichever dialog you want to turn to, these are the folks that were born, raised, reared and paid their way and now we want to say, "So Sorry", you're check will be cancelled before its cut next month. This is a generation of hard working, ethical, brilliantly educated, whether on the "streets" or on "polished hill". They all pretty much agree, "Its not about the money We're survivors! We're so concerned for our grandchildren and great grand children,". That's the typical futuristic outlook to our country's standing amid our most reputable, noble and wise inhabitants. Someone may want to make a note of this... Continued earnings is a very important aspect and reason boomers continue to work beyond 65, but the most typical reasons cited for continued work is the camaraderie and mental stimulation one gets from a routine and responsible job. This is s what motivates this generation to keep on ticking. They want to "stay in the game". 67% of boomers do not want to retire fully and they want to keep active both physically and mentally, for the "greater good". This is a generation of folks who lead all works of life in building the "American Dream Life", only to see it unravel before their own eyes. They will be leaders into their 70's, 80's and 90's, because they are are not in it for themselves, they are "in it" for others and for recognition thereof. They want to secure their generation as possibly the last of the "we" generations. They want to set as much as an example as they can for the younger "me" folks in today's society. Boomers will be the first to offer a hand, a compliment or a prayer, not to mention, quite a diversely trained professional in all industries. If you throw the automated customer service lines away, the ones that make the very phrase "customer service", skin curling, and put honest and well trained persons on the other end of the line, wow " job a geddon" and customer " satis faction geddon....!" Just a thought, but obviously the opportunity cost is just that, customer service. Thus creating massive employment, it may very well help improve satisfaction and less dependence on such "entitlements"., of which they really aren't, these folks have paid into the system their entire lives, so it is something that must be protected, re-directed to the generations that haven't paid in 50+ years. Open the phone lines again, train those that grew up with "customer service" to offer it again. Oh how the impact would be on consumer trading, entitlements, morale, etc.. Just saying...
