Why You Need a Water Softener in Your Home?

Water purity and safety is a big deal. But, most of us in the United States don't really worry too much about water standards, as we are accustomed to having safe, clean drinking water available from the nearest tap. However, many of us don't realize that our water may be "hard" water that contains levels of calcium carbonate and other metallic substances. Water softeners can eliminate those elements from your water. Hard Water Hard water may contain calcium carbonate, magnesium, aluminum, copper, iron and zinc beyond levels that are recommended by health experts. And, while the water may not be dangerous to your health, it may cause other problems for you and your family. The most common issue experienced by people when they have hard water is dry skin and hair. During the winter months, especially, getting rid of extra culprits of dry skin is pretty essential. But, hard water has a lot more effects than just contributing to dry skin. Hard water develops into scaly build up in your pipes and appliances. Experts agree that using a water softener may extend the life of your appliances that use hot water by up to 100 percent. Doubling the life of your coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine and water heater can save you some serious money (and headaches) down the line. Size of Water Softener The first thing you need to do is get your water tested. Home improvement stores usually sell kits for around $25. Or, you may be able to take your water into your city or county water department or conservation district for testing. Once you know how bad your water is, you can start hunting for a softener. Generally, to figure the size you need, you can use a simple equation. Multiply the number of people in your home by the gallons used each day. (Eighty gallons per person is common.) Then, multiply that number by the grains of hardness in your water (according to your test). From there, you know the number of grains your softener needs to remove daily. Typically, a four-person household needs at least a 33,000 grain unit. Buying Tips Water softenersusually run between $400 to $2,500, depending on size and features. Look for softeners that are NSF certified and carry the Water Quality Association (WQA) Gold Seal. While these recognitions may not guarantee high performance, products that adhere to these standards have met guidelines set forth by both organizations. ...read more

SUPER BOWL XLV

It's that time of year again. The holiday created by sports fans! Not by Hallmark. Not by the Federal Government. A holiday created by grown adults acting like pre-teen children, management executives acting like mail room guys, girlfriends acting sailors, and scrawny weaklings acting like Viking warriors. It's a holiday unlike no other.      Imagine if you will, thousands of screaming football fans huddled in the parking lot of their favorite sports arena, sipping down copious amounts of barley and hop beverages and gorging down hot dogs to soak up the suds. These people were unable to acquire tickets to the "Big Game" for whatever reason, but still had the nerves of steel to show up and support a team that they would never support. Proudly. On this day of the "Game to end all Games".      Now image thousands upon thousands of other people, who don't even like football, but somehow acquired tickets through their boss for landing the "big sale" and are now sitting on the side lines of the "Big Game", waiting to see Justin Beiber perform "Never Let You Go". (He's 16 Ladies! Control yourselves!) These people, these lucky, undeserving ones will pay. That's right! They will pay! They will pay ten dollars for a hot dog, five dollars for a bag of popcorn, and my all time favorite...three dollars for a bottle of water. That amount of money would feed twenty tailgaters.      Now for the rest of us. The ones who work really, really hard so we can have extra money to do cool things like go to the Super Bowl, but we're always so busy that we can't, or our boss is such a selfish SOB that he makes us work on Sunday so that he can attend the big event. For all of us there is Communion Catering. For us there is large amounts of food for any number of people that can be delivered to our home or office party. For us there is reasonably priced food that we can eat in the comfort of our own homes, surrounded by our best friends and relatives. For us there is meat and cheese, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and even fruits and vegetables so that we have healthy options to brag about to our mothers and girlfriends. For us there is Justin Beiber on a  60" Plasma Screen HDTV to keep our mothers and girlfriends busy while we do keg stands in the garage for the second half!      For all your party platter needs, go to www.communioncatering.webs.com. Now until February 4th, get $20 off purchases of $100 or more. Check out our Super Bowl Meat and Cheese Platter, and while you're there, sign up as a member to be eligible for our monthly platter giveaway. We will also send you offers and discounts once a month to keep you up to date on our specials. ...read more
