The Tax Remedy, LLC
By BrendaSR at Citysearch April 11, 2012
We will never use The Tax Remedy again! We recently moved to Spring and our situation had changed some with me becoming disabled, we bought a home, my husband had work expenses to claim...etc. \t\n\t\nMy husband did our taxes at home but did not submit them. We wanted to get a professional to do them to make sure what he had done was correct.\t\n\t\nThe Tax Remedy was less than a 1/2 mile away from our home. When we dropped our taxes off we were told it would take about a week for them to be ready--we dropped everything off on a Wednesday. My husband called to check on our taxes the following week on Friday (after they had them for 9 days and we hadn't heard from them). He spoke with Sharon who does the taxes and she gave him the impression that they had been done but she couldn't find them! She said he would call him back when she had them. She never called back! \t\n\t\nOn Tuesday another employee called me at home to say that our taxes were done. My husband and I went to sign for them and pick everything up on Thursday. We took the print out of what my husband had come up with to compare and see what he had missed (if anything). The Tax Remedy had us down for a refund of $2,461. While comparing it to my husband's, it was obvious they did NOT account for child care or the taxes on a vehicle we purchased in 2011. I was flabbergasted! \t\n\t\nI am a very organized person and everything we brought them was paper clipped into the correct categories and had tabs on everything saying what is was for and had the amounts highlighted. I could not have made their job any easier! Not to mention when we dropped our taxes off the lady we spoke with wrote down on their form that was attached to our paperwork all of the deductions we could receive. \t\n\t\nWhat we thought was going to be a quick run in and out to sign and pick up our paperwork turned into 40 minutes of chaos! Now they were using the forms my husband had filled out on his own for our taxes to correct their mistakes! Our actual refund was $3,083. A difference of $622! The fee that they were charging us for doing our taxes was $195 and they still wanted that amount after everything was all said and done. Had we have only relied on them we would have been out $622 owed back to us!! \t\n\t\nMy husband asked them if there was going to be an adjustment to that price and they took it down to $150. Really??? $150 for you to copy what my husband had already figured out! We were just using them really to double check the taxes that my husband had already figured out. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THIS PLACE AND SHOULD THE NEED OCCUR WE WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE! I wouldn't have given them any stars but on this site one star is the lowest. ...read more

Why Business Owners REALLY NEED to have a Will and Powers of Attorney
If you own your own business, you owe it to yourself, your family, and your employees to have a valid will and powers of attorney. Why is this so important? If you don't decide who gets what, Texas law will! And it probably won't be exactly what you want! Someone needs to keep the business going. Sure, an employee or spouse may know how to run it, but do they have the legal authority to do so? Durable powers of attorney can give someone power to make deposits, pay taxes, talk to vendors and government agencies, access funds and bank accounts, take care of payroll, sign documents and so on... There may be some differences in your estate plan, depending on whether you have a sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation. Get professional advice to be sure you have what you need. If you or your spouse have children from a previous marriage or partnership, things could get even more complicated if you don't have a will because these children will inherit part of the deceased spouse's property automatically. Don't leave yourself, your family and your business vulnerable. Act now! Kalish Law Office, The Woodlands, Texas. Since 1984 281-363-3700 www.kalishlawtexas.com se habla espanol ...read more

What is Legal Capacity?
In order to write a will, sign a contract, get married, or do a variety of other actions, a person must have legal capacity. This means that they must be mentally competent, understand what they're doing and be of a certain age. Legal capacity often comes into question when someone is signing a will or powers of attorney. In order to have a valid document, the person must have the ability to know what they are signing. Therefore, someone who is not "of sound mind" will lack legal capacity. A person who already has a legal guardian and therefore no legal authority to act on their own lacks legal capacity. A person who is suffering from dementia, certain other medical or psychological disorders may lack legal capacity. For this reason, an attorney will do his or her best to determine that a client is of sound mind and understands what s/he is doing when s/he is signing a will or power of attorney. It is important to sign the these types of documents while you still have the capacity and understanding to do so. If you believe that that you may have a problem in the near future do not wait to deal with these issues. Once you lose the ability to act on your own, you will not be able to participate in signing a legally valid document.Kalish Law Office - Wills, Probate&Family; Law - The Woodlands, Texas "Passionate, Professional&Personal.
