Just came from Cheray Auction, have went there several times and have spent quite a bit of money there, but tonight was the last time my partner and I will patronize this business. There wer at least 2 items that closed with a bid of only$5 and after Shawn, the auctioneer, said "Sold for $5", another patron raised their hand. Shawn reopened the bid and the new bidder won the bid for $7.50. We were not involved in the bids for these items, but surely the person(s) who originally won with the $5 bid was not pleased. Towards the end of the night when she was auctioning off tables (winning bidder gets choice off table), my partner asked 2 staff members if items on a adjacent table (butted up against the original table) were included in the auction. Finally, one of them said "Yeah". We had seen another customer pull an item off the adjacent table during the first round of bidding and purchase it as part of the original table, but we wanted to make sure before bidding. My partner bid, won and chose. The items were carried away as they are once bidding has ended. Shortly thereafter, Shawn made a statement over the P.A. that the items we chose were not included with the table. My partner politely (he's always very respectful) explained that he had asked and was told yes. If she had politely said, "I'm sorry, but my staff was incorrect", then we would have forgiven and forgotten. However, Shawn's reply was very snippy and even embarrassing since it was over the P.A. system. She responded saying, "Sir, I am the auctioneer!!!" and followed up with "Now, you legally have to buy something off that table!!!" My partner was hulmiliated and stunned by this response. Since the bid was $1, I quickly grabbed an item just to put an end to it. We checked out and left! I would have left a zero star rating, but you have to select at least one. ...read more
