It has happened to us all, you get a call about a staging that needs to be done yesterday, you rush to see the property, gather the quote and get it to the client and then....silence. Many times this is because of Sticker Shock.When you are a new stager sometimes it is hard to know how to bid a staging and if you are charging too much or too little. Estimating the cost and time a project will take, just takes experience. After you have spent the time looking at a property and giving the bid it is always disappointing when the seller or Realtor is never heard from again. What did I do wrong?As a professional home stager in the business for several years, I have given a lot of staging bids but that doesn't mean I don't still get the occasional silence treatment. It happens far less than it used to though because I pre-qualify my clients. I make sure that they have a clear understanding of what all I will be bidding, how much time it will take (including off site hours) and a low/high range of where the bid will land. That way they are prepared for the final bid and it doesn't catch them off guard and they realize they can't afford it to begin with. Now it needs to be said that as a stager I believe EVERYONE can afford staging, it is just a matter of making it a priority. That said, you don't want to waste time creating a bid and then find out the client is not willing to pay because they do not see the value. So set an expectation from the beginning. Be sure your client understands what your staging will include and entail and more importantly the value it will bring.
