Use Care When Hiring to Re-Build Your Home.

Weather patterns can change quickly, and, as evidenced by last Sunday's weather, so can your chances of being flooded out of your home. Such unforeseen changes in atmospheric conditions can affect thousands of homeowners. Rains will eventually cause roof leaks, wear out exterior paints and siding, affect the foundation, and so on, but heavy rains can cause destructive floods. You can't prevent a flood of rain and strong powerful winds, and sometimes you won't see it coming. We saw such flooding here in the southwest side of San Antonio, and many homeowners will now need to rebuild or at least remodel their damaged homes. However, during such emergencies, these homeowners should seek a strategy and follow a process to reduce risks and to protect and rebuild their biggest investment. During such distress times, all kinds of contractors can come out of the woods. Be careful who you decide upon to repair or rebuild your home. Avoid those who call themselves "flood damage experts or professionals," and steer clear of any who are running "neighborhood" or "door-to-door" specials. Also, be careful of those who solicit your business by phone or claim they were "just passing by." You should choose a contractor to work on your damaged home in the same way you would choose one for any remodel job, with research and careful consideration.Carefully checking out a remodeler to repair your home may take a little time. If you home was damaged by last week's floods, or if you ever find yourself in such a situation in the future, there are some immediate things you can do to put you on your way to recovery. • Contact your homeowner’s insurance agency as soon as possible and inform them about your damages.• Contact the local police and fire departments about what you should do before moving building materials, debris, etc.• Call your utility companies for specific emergency information.• Call the Red Cross for temporary shelter, food, water, bedding, medical help, and so on.• Listen to the local news for flood information and for information on federally funded money. There are also some measures you can take to protect yourself when you go to get your home repaired: • Don't be pressured. Allow enough time to select a good contractor to fill your needs. Ask your lender or contractor about your rights concerning any waiting period other than the federal three-day waiting period. • Make sure that you hire a license contractor and one that has many, many years of expertise in the business. • When evaluating bids from contractors, make sure that they are based on identical project specifications.Although it is common practice to make a down payment when you sign a remodeling contract, you should be especially wary of any remodeler who asks for full payment before the job has begun. A payment schedule should be part of your written agreement with the remodeler and may, for example, be tied to completing various stages of the job. ...read more

Bathroom Remodels in high demand!

Ramey Custom Builders has been remodeling and building new homes in San Antonio for several years now.  Last year we experienced an influx in bathroom remodeling inquiries, that influx has carried over into this year as well.  75% of our remodeling inquiries are for master bathroom renovations.  Their is a wide margin between our lowest priced bathroom renovation and our highest.  There are several factors that determine the price of your bathroom renovation. 1.) Design 2.) Materials selected 3.) Existing challenges 4.) Age of the home These are the main factors that can increase the price of your project tremendously. I always encourage consumers to interview design/build teams for there project.  This ensures the project can be designed and built within a customer's budget.  Always allocate some funds unforeseen challenges. Even the best of contractors can't always eliminate those "hidden challenges." Please visit our website for more remodeling ideas and tips. www.rameycustombuilders.com                      AFTER                                         BEFORE ...read more

On or about September 30, 2015, I paid Wylie Construction $1,000.00 as a down payment for the construction of an outdoor kitchen. Wylie Construction's representative, Robert Thompson, agreed to process all of the paperwork necessary to get approved from my Home Owner's Association (HOA). The plan submitted by Wylie Construction showed the patio/outdoor kitchen on top of the house, not in the backyard. The plan was never approved by the HOA, and the proposed outdoor kitchen was not built. I requested to be refund the $1,000.00 payment, sent him a letter from my attorney (certified mail and regular mail). Wylie Construction, has ignored the demand letter, not communicated with me, and not refunded my deposit. Wylie Construction's failure constitutes a breach of contract. ...read more

Do not work with this company , they leave in the middle of your work and make sure do not pay them in advance. Wylie Construction with ownership of Mr. Justin Wylie . had a contract to have work in my back yard for the amount $23800.00. he has not even delivered 20% of his contract. he got $19000.00 and as per his sale rep that is how he walked out of his contract and he is not intending to return money back to us. I will legally peruse him for breach and contract and fraud if he does not intend to finish his work and clean all the berries from the land beside us. he is deceitful man and I recommend no one to work with this company. He is a fraud and unfortunately he takes advantage of people like me who pay them in advance. ...read more
