Incredibly disappointed in this office. My husband and I recently moved from TX to FL. Concerned that we would need coverage for the move, we contacted our Allstate in Schertz, TX and spoke to Ashley Head to review our policy. After review, she informed us we would not have full coverage for the entire amount of our plan, but we would be covered for 10% of the value of our current policy while our items were in transit. We were fine with that and felt comfortable keeping the policy until we moved; therefore, we continued paying our premiums. Once our items were delivered, we immediately noticed several items had been damaged. Photos were taken and items were noted with the moving company before they left. This week we contacted Allstate to file the claim for our damaged items. Within 24 hours an adjuster contacted us and stated that we were in fact not covered for the damage to our items. We were sick! Apparently, the items were only covered if there was a fire or flood during transit. We would have purchased an additional policy from Allstate if this information would have been communicated upon our original inquiry. We spoke with this office on two different dates regarding our move and felt comfortable with our decision to keep our current policy. Since all conversations are recorded, we have requested copies of the conversations. We were lead to believe that damage to our goods while in transit would be covered. Preventing Frozen Pipes: Ø Allow a slow trickle of water to flow, especially if the faucet is on an exterior wall. Be sure both the hot and cold faucets are flowing. Ø Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to un-insulated pipes under sinks and appliances near exterior walls. Ø Set the thermostat in your house no lower than 55 degrees. Ø Bring pets indoors. Ø Move all vehicles inside the garage if possible. Never leave a vehicle running with the garage door down. Ø If time permits, fit exposed pipes outside the home with insulation sleeves. Ø Keep exterior doors to unheated spaces closed as much as possible. Ø Disconnect outside garden hoses. Ø Cover foundation vents to prevent frozen pipes in crawlspaces. If Your Pipes Freeze: Ø DON'T TAKE CHANCES. If you turn on your faucets and nothing comes out, leave the faucets turned on and call a licensed plumber. If you detect that your water pipes have frozen and burst, turn off the water at the main shut-off valve; leave the water faucets turned on. Make sure everyone in your family knows where the water shut-off valve is and how to open and close it. Ø Never try to thaw a pipe with a torch or other open flame. Fight Fire Before It Starts: Ø Keep a-b-c rated fire extinguisher in the home. Ø Make sure your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detector are in working order. Ø Keep space heaters away from flammable materials. NEVER leave them unattended! Ø Never use a generator, grill, camp stove or other gasoline, propone, natural gas or charcoal-burning devices inside a home or garage. Ø Do not use improperly installed or poorly maintained wood burning stoves or chimneys. Ø Cook with care and never leave your stove or oven unattended.
