About Richmond, TX
Richmond is the county seat of Ford Bend County, Texas and is a part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metro area. It one of the smaller cities in the area but contains most of the local government offices including multiple of units of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Hilmar G. Moore has been mayor of Richmond since 1949 and is thought to be the longest serving current mayor in the U.S. Legendary Texas figures Jane Long, Deaf Smith, and Mirabeau Lamar are all buried in Richmond. Attractions include the Fort Bend County Law Library, George Memorial Library, the historic Richmond Police Department building (formerly the county jail), and the neighboring city of Sugar Land, the largest in the county.
