Food for thought: Often, new piano owners, eager to properly take care of the instrument, immediately call someone to come and tune. Sometimes there are enough "sour" notes that a tuning is badly needed--just to soothe some frazzled nerves. However, it is a good idea to wait for at least three weeks while the piano expands or shrinks here and there in its new atmosphere. Humidity, heat, and cold all affect the piano's intonation because so much of the instrument is made of wood, and these factors will shrink or expand all those wooden parts including the sounding board, pin sockets, etc. The tuning is liable to last longer if a person gives the piano a few weeks to "adjust." --Gary ...read more
