Armstrong Plumbing, Air & Electric

This company charged my elderly mother for a "free" estimate. She needed a water heater replaced and a tech came out and looked at it for a couple of minutes then wrote up an estimate. Their yellow pages ad says "free estimates on installations" -- what they don't say is that if you can't afford their price quote they will charge you for a $72 service call! My mom is on a very limited fixed income and she could not afford their estimate. EDIT : This company has offered a $72 refund, since the customer service rep did not explain on the phone that there would a service call charge if my mom could not afford the estimate. So at least this company is responsive to customer complaints, and I'm sure they do fine work -- I just think their phone ads are misleading with regards to the "free estimates" claim. ...read more

Heat Pump System: Will I save money with a Heat Pump?

First we have to answer: What is a Heat pump? For climates with moderate heating and cooling needs, heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners. Like your refrigerator, heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house; during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide up to 4 times the amount of energy they consume. The most common type of heat pump is the air-source heat pump, which transfers heat between your house and the outside air. High-efficiency heat pumps also dehumidify better than standard central air conditioners, resulting in less energy usage and more cooling comfort in summer months. However, the efficiency of most air-source heat pumps as a heat source drops dramatically at low temperatures, generally making them unsuitable for cold climates, although there are systems that can overcome that problem. ___________________________________________________________________ The short answer to the question above is "No".  In cooling and heating mode the compressor is running most of the time.  If you do the math with the cost of your gas bill and add it into your energy bill (for the winter months), it comes out about the same during the summer months.  So you really didn't save any money. The only way you can really save money with a heat pump system is to look into the new inverter compressor technology withDaikinorMitsubishi.  With this new technology youwillsave money on your energy bills and stay warm. The reason is simple: with an inverter compressor, the compressor stays running at a low constant amperage (even on start-up).  With a conventional compressor, when it starts to run the amperage spikes and then goes down to a low amperage. When your compressor spikes, so does your energy meter!   In some instances, a heat pump system can save the owner money through lower energy costs, but conventional heat pumps are not the most efficient way to save money in Lubbock. With the new inverter compressor technology you will be able to save money and have great efficiency along with it. Ask me about howa new Mitsubishi or Daikin system can help you save money. Commercial HVAC Controls: LonMark Technology

Sinclair Heating Cooling&Plumbing; is excited to announce that we have a LonMark Certified Professional on staff (Me)!  What that means to you is that I can help you save money.  I can do this by controlling what your building HVAC system demands are along with other things like lighting.  Having an intelligent control system based on LonMark certified devices is key in obtaining money saving strategies. Ask me how?  "What is LonMark?"  LonMark is the company that has developed the international standards to make sure that devices will work together in an integrated control environment. Basically, if you already have a control system in your business or building that runs on BACnet, Modbus, LonMark, etc... LonMark has made it possible to tie-in to those applications.  Or, I can help create a LonMark network from scratch for you and your building.   Facts straight from LonMark International:   -Having an intelligent control system following a LonMark specification has been shown to save upwards of 30% annually in energy costs over a non-integrated, non-intelligent control system.  Wow! -With continuous commissioning and implementation strategies, this number (30% savings) increases even more!  -LonMark systems allow for future expansion and adaptation without changing architectures, without being locked into a single provider, and allow for fair competitive bidding on the initial install and future projects.  This is a new venture for Sinclair HVAC&Plumbing and I am excited about these new opportunities.  Would you like to save money with your commercial buildings high energy bills?  Have questions? Need more information?  Please send me a comment below. ...read more

Sinclair Residential Plumbing Tips: How do I clean my shower head?

CUSTOMER QUESTION:  The water doesn't flow well from my kitchen sink and shower heads. What can I do to get more water flow?If you live in Lubbock, Texas you know how hard our water is.  I have 2 shower heads in my shower that are almost 2 years old and I have already had to clean them 3 times!  I said to myself, "If I am having this problem, so would everyone else that lives in and around Lubbock."  I suggest that you remove the aerator from the sink faucet and soak it in white vinegar for several hours. You will be able to see the hard water particles release from it. The length of time depends on how much blockage has occurred. You might, in addition, use an old toothbrush to loosen the particles.Instead of removing the shower head to soak it, a really good way to clean it is to put the vinegar in a plastic sandwich bag, slip it over the shower head, and secure it with string or a small wire. Soaking it overnight will open the holes for smoother air flow. Again, an old toothbrush comes in handy here too. Do you have more helpful tips with cleaning faucets or other plumbing fixtures? Do you have anair conditioning or plumbing questionyou want answered?  Photo by  ...read more
