JOHNS

A few years after I started school our parents moved to Livingston, Texas.  This girl raised in the sticks opened her eyes bigger that marbles when she saw the rolling hills and push buttons on the light poles not to mention the electricity and running water at the school. I caught the bus at Griffin Gro because it had a little front porch which kept all the kids dry on rainy days. Daddy drove the chip truck at Leggett Lumber Company and we lived right across the road.  One morning Mr. Griffin said I will pay you three dollars a day if you will work for us when you are not in school so to a teenager that was big money and I jumped at the chance not knowing I had just added more adults to the band wagon to send me to college. I went and during that time Griffin and others said your Daddy needs to put in a store because Griffin said I am going to build a new store up the road and so Daddy bought and carried a few boards home every work day and nailed them up at night until the store was built and Griffin and others came in and because I was still working for them too they told me how to help my parents in the store and I was a good employee and so I did. Do not ever become bored with life because it is funny and will keep you on your toes unless you just quit which is not a good idea because God would not like that.  At Chrismas time I had a thing about Christmas trees and I drove Mama to town past a homeplace that I thought had the prettiest trees on it just right for Christmas and I would always ask Mama "Do you think they would let us buy one of those trees for Christmas and Mama would say "They are not our trees."  Well one day Daddy got a chance to buy the little piece of land and so he did just as happy as he could be and us too especially me because Mama got to decorate one of those little grown up Christmas trees.Well that is where my little Johns Country Store shop is now.  Hurricane Ike came along with its tornadoes, etc. and just tore up and destroyed so many of those grown up little trees and after the bugs and disease and drought began to hit them I had to have them cut.  I litterly got sick about it for a few weeks and then I settled into the fact that it needed to be done.  Well during all the cleanup a garden tiller damaged my right leg which with God's help has healed and I am back at my little shop at 4273 State Highway 146 South at Langham Lane.  My hubby is there too with no Christmas tree because he really is not a Christmas tree fan as I am but there will always be Christmas.   Christmas lives in the heart.Come by and talk to us when you can as we are there when we can be. My hubby loves to talk as much as I love Christmas.Do not worry about Grinches as they do not like our place so they stay away.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and many more ...read more
