These guys are great. My husband and I took over 100 tapes of various types to the location on 1960 around Christmas time and they had the job completed in about a week. The quality was outstanding and the pricing was much better than some of the other company's we checked with. Also the work is done on site which was very important to me. Why Brokers Can KILL a Film Deal
It’s not a surprise why some of the films out there never getting financing. I have found one the reason is because these so-called “Brokers” Kill the deal… The following is advice. NO I am not a broker or an expert on film financing, This is just what I AM seeing with deals that come across my desk.. FIRST : IF you are a broker and you have investors interested in financing films before you even CONTACT a producer, to say “hey I have an investor” make sure your INVESTOR is a REAL investor and NOT another broker.. The worst thing in the world is a “BROKER CHAIN” Which investors and Producers HATE!! And My investors will not deal with.. if you are not the DIRECT contact to the investor, must investors will just pass. Who wants to deal with 10 brokers???.. Now We do realize there are times when the “investor” actually comes through another broker associate which is fine, but you should ALL have your agreements together in place.. The producer should deal with only the INVESTOR and the broker who brought the investor to the table. . SECOND: Get your Finders agreement in place with the production company so you (and your fellow brokers) are protected!. So you should have 2 agreements ONE from the production company stating your fee ( example : 3%) and ONE between you and your fellow brokers stating you are splitting the 3% etc…That way the producer is dealing with only ONE BROKER!! . Once you get your signed contract and you introduce the Producer to the investor (STEP BACK!!!!!) there is NO reason for YOU to keep sending and forwarding emails back and forth.. Let the producer and the investor TALK so they can negotiate the deal and close it.. If you have your signed agreement, what are you worried about? YOU WILL GET PAID!!.. I have seen many times, brokers will not let the producer have the investors name, or number or email.. so the broker will send emails on behalf of the investor.. THEN something gets lost in translation that kills the deal. THIRD: OMG!!!!!!! How many people should be on the conference call? lol Just the producer and the investor and maybe the ONE broker (being silent of course so the 2 can talk) I was on a call once and.. I was executive producing this one film and my investor passed on it because all of the sudden 9 people were talking at once… when I got my Conference report back there were 10 people on that call.. of which I have NO idea who the other 7 were!! LOL. Really??? This is in NO way to discredit brokers.. There are some outstanding ones out there that get the deal done and are awesome and what they do.. We know a few.. But then there are some newbie’s that just post on places like craigslist etc that just don’t know what the hell they are doing and really screw things up for the producers.. So PRODUCERS know the difference If you are going to use a broker make sure that broker really have investors and not just shopping your film around to anyone and everyone because that is another thing that kill deals.. I once had a film I was working on getting funding for which I had interest from 2 of my private investors. But because this film had been shopped around so much the investors were no longer interested because it came across the desk of some associates of my investors LOL. I know producers have to take their film to a few people just make sure it’s a source that doesn’t shop! We have 4 investors THAT’S IT.. We don’t shop.. if our people pass.. We drop the project..
