About Godley, TX
Godley is a city in Johnson County, Texas, which is a part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The population was 997 in 2006. As of the 2000 census the median age was 31 years and the median income for a household in the city was $40,667. Johnson County is named for Middleton Johnson, a Texas Ranger, soldier, and politician. The first settler of Johnson County was Henry Briden who lived in a log cabin on the Nolan River. His log cabin is still in existence today, and can be seen along State Highway 174 in Rio Vista, Texas. In 1856 Buchanan became the county seat. In 1867 Camp Henderson became the new county seat and the settlement was renamed Cleburne in honor of Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. Attractions in the Godley area include Godley City Park and Fort Worth Zoo. Each year there is a Family Fun Kites Festival. Local businesses include Rafter H Construction Metal Buildings & Fencing and Hazels Rawhide Wester Weddings. Public education in the city of Godley is provided by the Godley Independent School District, which include Godley Middle School and Godley High School.
