The 2013 season for baseball still has not started, the commissioner was fast at collecting the money but will not let the kids play. He will not answer phone calls, sends out a text the day before teams are to play to cancel the games saying there are no fields to play on. He does not care about the kids who have been working hard to get ready to play but only get told they can not play. Will not put out a schedule, will not tell anyone what is going on. He has daughters that play softball and all their games are having no problems. He only cares about himself and not the kids. He needs to be replaced!!!!!!! ...read more

EPBYAA Kicks Off BASEplay Baseball In El Paso On Nov 1, 2014

El Paso Border Youth Athletic Association Kicks of Baseball and Softball for Kids in Economically Distressed Neighborhoods. In partnership with the Clint Independent School District, EPBYAA announces the first games of their newly launched BASE Play program this Saturday, November 1, 2014. BASE Play is an after school initiative designed to connect 4th grade children in economically distressed areas to their own potential, their health and their community through baseball and softball play. BASE Play kicks off its Fall 2014 season at the Clint Junior High fields. 12625 Alameda Avenue, with the first game beginning at 9AM. The program emphasizes the importance of academic achievement while teaching the fundamentals of boy's baseball and girl's fast-pitch softball to young students. Recruited players receive baseball and softball programming three days a week. Practice is conducted on school fields and programming is provided at no cost to the participants. EPBYAA) is a 501(c)-3 organization operating in El Paso since 2000. Created to support academic achievement through athletic activity, for the last 14 years EPBYAA has worked with El Paso youth to encourage education and provide development opportunities to children ages 8 to 18. "Being an underprivileged kid from Puerto Rico, baseball afforded me the opportunity to attend college in the U.S. and to develop team and leadership skills I've been able to successfully utilize in all aspects of life," explains EPBYAA board member Junior Ortiz, Assistant Special Agent in Charge at the El Paso FBI headquarters. According to the National Alliance for Youth Sports, children who participate in athletic programs with an educational focus often perform better academically and have more success later in life than non-participants. Structured athletic activity also produces tangible health benefits. El Paso is experiencing a child obesity crisis as a result of declining levels of physical activity, which can result in the onset of diabetes. According to the Pan American Health Organization, the rate of diabetes in El Paso is 13%, twice as high as the national average. BASE Play is expected to have a measurable positive impact on all of these indicators. ...read more
