July News: Blood Drive and Cardio Blast Party
6 Months down, 6 more to go in 2012! Setting fitness goals can be extremely challenging and frustrating - especially if you're new to the fitness scene. We tend to be weary of even setting fitness goals, in fear of the disappointment or guilt that comes when we fail. But think about it like this: when we get lost, we use maps to find our destination. Are fitness goals really any different? Blood Drive This Saturday July 20th 11 AM - 2 PM Carter Blood Care will park its rolling blood donation station on the parking lot of Anytime Fitness this Saturday to collect blood so critically needed throughout the DFW area.Renew the gift of hope for transfusion-dependent patients by giving blood. Blood transfusion makes possible surgical procedures, cancer treatments and transplant operations for patients in our community. Cancer patients use more blood products, including platelets, than any other patient group in the Carter BloodCare service area. Platelets have a shelf-life of only five days, making the need for volunteer blood donors constant. The necessity for blood will not take a break because every two minutes someone in the Carter BloodCare service area requires blood. One in seven patients admitted into a hospital will need a blood transfusion. Giving blood is a powerful way to get involved in your community because it is always life-prolonging, life-saving, or life-enhancing. Potential donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent's consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time. It's also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood.. So, keep up the great work, and don't forget...staff and trainers are here to help! Zumbathon Raises $10,000 For MDA A special thanks to everyone who came out to our Zumbathon on Sat. May 18th. It was warm out but that didn't slow anyone down. After dancing for just over 2 hours, we had some great refreshments from GNC, My Fit Foods, and Cytosport. As a group we raised over $10,000 for MDA. We especially want to thank our sponsors US Health Fritz-Duda Park Place Jaguar GNC Cellucore Kohl's Wal-mart My Fit Foods Cytosport (Muscle Milk) Check out the pictures and videos on Facebook at Anytime Fitness North Dallas Weight Maintenance...how do you do it?We turned to our Chief Science Officer, Brian Zehetener, and asked him for four tips on how to maintain weight.4 Basic Elements of Weight MaintenanceThough some people may vehemently disagree, weight lossis relatively easy to accomplish. If you really want to lose weight and you commit to taking in fewer calories than you expend, the weight is very likely to come off. Here are 4 things to keep in mind, which will help you maintain your weight loss.1. Follow a low-fat, low-calorie diet:This eating pattern isn't the only one that works, but it does seem to be the one that most people think is the easiest to stick with for the long haul. Bottom line-consume foods that you know will be your dietary staples from here on out.2. Eat breakfast each and every day:If you skip breakfast, you'll likely end up back-loading calories later in the day, which is definitely not ideal, no matter what your goals are. Furthermore, it means that it will be even harder to stick to your maintenance calorie level as well. I guess Mom was right.3. Weigh yourself regularly:If you hop on the scale a few times a week, you'll be able to keep tabs on any unwelcome trends that may result from overeating and/or too little physical activity. Remember, knowledge is power!4. Be physically active:This may be the most important variable of them all. Numerous studies have concluded that increased physical activity is absolutely vital to long-term weight maintenance. Maintaining very low calorie levels in order to avoid exercise is simply not sustainable. Lunchtime Workout: 20-Minute Bodyweight Circuit Got 20 minutes and a pair of gym shoes? Perfect, then there is no need to skip your week day workouts This workout is designed so that you can get in a high calorie-burn, full-body workout in just 20 minutes, leaving yourself just enough time to chow your lunch! The great thing about this circuit is that no equipment is needed, just some motivation and hard work. ...read more
