We make our choices based on our surroundings. Students often have the potential to be great. To obtain greatness they need someone else to show them the path. This requires parents to be involved, to take a stand when necessary, and pay attention to their child. No one knows your children like you do. This requires teachers, and schools as a whole, to recognize the greatness and ACT accordingly. This requires people to care. That saying, "It takes a village to raise a child" can't be more true. One bad teacher, one bad school year, can change the outcome of a child's future, especially when parents aren't involved. Schools everywhere need to fire these bad teachers. It's not like we have a lack of people waning to be teachers. I'll say again schools are only as good as their staff. Children are only as good as they are taught. Many, if not most, children require special needs. Medication, different teaching methods, different teaching environment (such as public schools vs private schools, vs homeschooling) counseling.... the options are endless to gain greatness from every child. You just have to find what best suites yours. If you saw Stephen Hawkings and didn't know who he was; you would think he was one of the unfortunate "disabled". You would probably assume he was essentially a child in a mans body. But, turns out he possesses one of the greatest minds ever. Just something to think about. As for Corpus Christi, you're right. We have nothing special here. We are boring, the city is trashed and full of incompetence. But, then again.... I feel this way about the United States as a whole. We are raised to be spoiled, ignorant, and our educational system is behind the times. Google "best educated countries", you won't find the United States in the top 10. We are power hungry, money hungry, and lazy.... and yet we are considered to be one of the greatest countries? For what? Luck seems to have been on our side, along with scamming, cheating, lying, thievery bastards weaseling their way to the top. Our country was founded on poor morals and has never found integrity. We are individuals who only achieve greatness based on our own individual eagerness, willpower, and opportunities. We have to fight for ourselves. There is no village here; we fend for ourselves. This teaches us to be selfish. We have people in our own country going hungry, homeless, or living in poverty and yet we are spending millions of dollars providing for "those less fortunate than us" For what purpose I can only assume to be a good (all be it facade) image, not because we genuinely care. Ah, I've gone long off track. I'm a bit of a babbler. Sorry for such a long post. Disagree or agree it doesn't matter to me. It's mostly the opinion of just some girl in South Texas. ...read more
