McKenzie Paul & Associates

By Marshall B

Can you say SCAM!!! Hired McKenze-Paul to collect some outstandng invoices and they did. They told me they had colleted the funds and would be sending me a check within 60 days. Several months later I called and was told the check was in the mail. Still no check! I started calling and sending e-mails, neither of whcih were ever returned. I sent registered letters, still no responce. After a year, I contacted Austin P.D. and filed a Theft of Funds report and let them contact these folks. This did the trick!! They paid me the money they owed, but they had to do it in payments over a couple of months. So it took over a year to collect the money from McKenzie Paul & Assoc. who got to use that money free of charge for that time. I needed a collection company to collect from McKenzie Paul. I gave them one star only because there is not a zero star. ...read more

Light Bar

If having a good time with good friends downtown is what you're after, just walk right past light bar. You can get drinks and music anywhere downtown and the service here is a disaster. \t\n\t\nSome friends and I went in last weekend as I had remembered the rooftop balcony being a fun place to chill out. We had to pay a $5 cover to get in (very unusual for a downtown bar in Austin where most are cover free) but we wanted to go upstairs so we sucked it up. \t\n\t\nThe second we got up onto the roof and before we had any drinks someone from their staff said that they were closing the rooftop for the evening (only midnight on a Saturday) and we had to come down. No biggie, just give us back our cover and we'll find somewhere else to go. \t\n\t\nWe were told to talk to the night manager about it. Rather than just give us our $5 covers back he takes an attitude with us for trying to cheat his bar. One of my friends raises his voice which was apparently just what the manager was waiting for. He says that we can't yell at him in his bar and that we need to get out or he is going to throw us out. We asked for his name and he refused to tell us. One of the cashiers told us his name which I will refrain from publishing here but if anyone from the bar reads this I'm sure they can figure out who the saturday night hothead midnight manager was. \t\n\t\nIn short, light bar must be cash strapped to fight over $5 covers at the expense of losing customers for life. Downtown Austin is an amazing place and there are just better options for a night out. \t\n ...read more

Credit Solutions of Austin

By Colosky

I went to Credit Solutions of Austin/Central Texas to find out what made them different from other companies and how they could help me. I was surprised they told me how to do it all for myself and gave me a choice to let them draft letters to the three credit bureaus. The small fee they charge, for their documentation and experience in identifing credit reporting issues and the time spent, is worth it. They find all the issues first. Explain what they found, line by line. Explain what they are going to request or demand from the credit bureaus based on our legal rights. Then they offer the decision to keep your money and write the letters yourself or let them right the letters for you for a small fee. You know what the letters will cost before they are written and you don't pay until you proof, approve and sign. The process from requesting credit reports to getting items removed by the credit bureau takes no more than 90days. Not months or years. They care 100 fold ><>. ...read more

Ridiculous! Hold on to you credit/debit cards. Even when you do open a tab [leave your credit/debit card with the bar] - each time you buy a drink using your credit/debit card, The Light Bar places a $50 hold on your account that supposedly drops off in 5 business days. That means that the 2 times we bought drinks at $7.50 and $15.00 translates into a $100 hold on my funds in my account. CRAZY [and they do not tell you this before you make a purchase]. ...read more

Marvin Smith with JP&C Collections has done an amazing job with our account. We had very bad service with a previous collection agency, so we weren't sure what to expect when we turned over accounts to JP&C. They have actually collected every account we have turned over to them!! Marvin is not your stereotypical collection agent. He is professional but down-to-earth and treats your clients with great respect. If you haven't had good success with your collections, turn them over to JP&C. You will be very glad you did! ...read more

I would not recommend this bar at all. They overcharge for every drink possible. Seriously, four dollars for a Bud Light or eight dollars per wine glass? No way. On top of that, they have shoddy tables. I bumped a table on accident, which spilled my brother's wine terribly, and they charged me for another wine altogether without asking me. Go elsewhere if you want some "high class" drinks. These guys do not emphasize; they just want the most dough from the customer as possible. ...read more

The 8 Best Credit Repair Companies

By BCR Consulting April 05, 2018

IMPORTANT: Read this prior to paying off collection accounts

Collection companies have done a great job over the years of convincing consumers that paying off collections will raise their credit scores. Many are actually surprised to learn that paying off collections will actually lower their credit scores. Collections are usually reported on the credit as a “9” status or collection account. This means the account has already been "written off" and assigned to collections by the creditor. Once an account is reported this way on the credit report, the damage to the credit score is irreversible, unless that item is removed completely from the report. If the account is paid off, the collection company reports that the account now has a $0 balance, but they do not usually delete the item off the report. The account has already become a collection, and the risk of the consumer defaulting on another account is already very high, due to that collection. So their credit score will not go any higher if it is paid off, because paying off a collection after the fact, doesn't lower the risk of defaulting in the future.   However, the DATE OF LAST ACTIVITY is updated to the date the account was paid off. So if that account was sent to collections 3 years ago, the date of last activity is 3 years old and the impact to the credit score is not as much. But if the consumer pays off that collection today, they just update the date of last activity to today's date, sometimes causing the scores to go DOWN as a result. Crazy isn't it? Your clients are trying to do the right thing and pay off collections, but their scores can be lower as a result. Help your clients work with collection companies to have their negative item removed completely from their report, if they pay it off. This will help their credit while satisfying the collection company. Source: Credit Advisory Group ...read more
