Supported Employment Specialist Position Description

Supported Employment Specialist Position Description In partnership with the VR Counselor, the Supported Employment Specialist (SE Specialist) provides orientation and guidance throughout the supported employment process.  The SE Specialist implements the discovery process that leads to a detailed assessment of the consumer and facilitates, or supports the facilitation of, required meetings for implementation of services. Supported Employment Specialist Credentialing

Supported Employment Specialist The Supported Employment Specialist is pivotal to making everything work and fit together for consumers they are serving.  They deal with all persons involved in the process, including significant others, supervisors, human resources, the general public, co-workers and others at the workplace in addition to the consumer.  The Supported Employment Specialist is expected to manage all activities related to the employment process from discovery to closure, from training to setting up long-term supports, and from job analysis to timely completion of reports.  They are responsible for maintaining communication with the referring DARS VR Counselor and supervising the Job Skills Trainer. Supported Employment Specialist Qualifications A Supported Employment Specialist must meet the education and experience qualifications in one of the following three options. Option 1 The Supported Employment Specialist has •a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services; and•one year's documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities. Option 2 The Supported Employment Specialist has •an associate's degree in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services; and•two years' documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities. Option 3 The Supported Employment Specialist has•a high school diploma or GED, and•three years' documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with people with disabilities. Job Placement Specialist Position Description

Job Placement Specialist Position Description The Job Placement Specialist supplies the necessary assistance or training for the consumer to conduct the job search and/or be placed in competitive employment, and then maintain the employment for 90 days.  This is a highly independent position that requires excellent skills in written and verbal communication, problem solving, marketing and effective time management. The role of the Job Placement Specialist is to teach the consumer the skills or assist the consumer in executing the skills necessary to conduct the job search and/or be placed in competitive employment, and then maintain the employment for 90 days.  The Job Placement Specialist provides as much or as little assistance or training that the consumer needs to achieve the employment goal outlined in the DARS3431 – Job Placement Services - Plan. The Job Placement Specialist verifies the consumer performance at work, assisting the consumer to address any barriers that may affect his/her employment. This verification can take place at or away from the worksite, but it is a best practice to meet the consumer routinely face-to-face. The Job Placement Specialist does not provide Job Coaching, but may assist the consumer in advocating needs to the employer or VR counselor. If Job Coaching is identified as a need for the consumer, the VR Counselor will set up the Job Coaching services as a separate service for the consumer. ...read more
