I recently had the sad occasion to order flowers for a funeral. Distraught, the folks at Lenox Village were so compassionate and helpful. The Owner and designer made made a sad situation very easy for me, they even provided bouteneers for the pall bearers at no additional charge. Talk about a small business that goes above and beyond! I now use them for all of my floral needs...and to the unsatisfied customers...give them a second chance, they deserve it and you won't be dissapointed! ...read more

The gates rarely work, the water goes out frequently, the pool has a dirt ring, and the office staff does not return phone calls. My friend had painted his walls before his neighbors water heater burst. The apartment charged him for replacing the carpet after the paint ran. As I speak, my apt building is in darkness on the outside. Every floor is in blackout. When I look out my peep hole, I can see nothing. This is day 2! The rank is one only because it would not let me submit with no stars! ...read more

Nashville Sounds Baseball Club

1.0

By Leon Wolf at Citysearch

I try to go to 2 or 3 Sounds games a year and generally the experience can be described as just ""okay."" I have been to 8 or 9 minor league ballparks and even after the ""renovations"" Greer Stadium is easily the worst, even including some AA parks I have been to, and definitely much worse than Hawkins Field (Vandy). Still, it's baseball and is relatively cheap entertainment for the family and it is a decent place for kids to have birthday parties and whatnot.\t\n\t\nHOWEVER, going on the 4th of July to see the fireworks is pretty much guaranteed to be a debacle. While the traffic getting to the stadium is always horrible (for some reason the Sounds do not enlist Metro PD to help do traffic control when people are pulling in - ALWAYS plan to get there about 45 minutes ahead of time and wait in a long line), on July 4th it is HORRIBLE. I got off the interstate at Wedgewood at around 6:15pm like normal and I did not get to my seat until 8pm (bottom of the 3rd). When I finally got up to where the parking was, they told me the parking was sold out - and it wasn't even a capacity crowd! I always hear the Sounds owners going on sports talk radio and complaining that more people don't come to the games; however, it's a good thing they don't because if more people came to the games they couldn't accomodate them with basic services! I had to park way down past Gabby's and walk after all that wait. \t\n\t\nThen when I got to the game, the staffing problems were even worse. Even thought he 4th of July crowd every year is the biggest one they have, they didn't have any more concession stand help than they would have for an ordinary Monday game. I got up after the end of the 4th inning to get a couple hot dogs because I was starving and by the time I got back to my seat the 7th inning stretch was going on. That's right, it took me over an HOUR to get a couple hot dogs and a bottled water. I saw ONE VENDOR trying to sell stuff actually in the seats through the entire game, and he was selling nothing but beer, so there was no way to get any sort of food other than to wait in the ridiculous line.\t\n\t\nEssentially, due to the Sounds' management's failure to plan for the size crowd they KNOW they are going to get every year on July 4th, I got to watch 4 innings of baseball. At least the fireworks were decent. Then of course, getting out of the park and back to the Interstate took almost another hour because both main routes of egress (Wedgewood or 8th to Demonbreun) were crammed (due to the Sounds or people trying to leave the fireworks show downtown). \t\n\t\nThe 4th of July fireworks show is a big attraction for the Sounds and it was very disappointing to see them drop the ball like this. I am sure a lot of people come every year for the first time on the 4th thinking that it is a good way to see fireworks and beat the downtown crowd and will walk away determined never to come to another Sounds game again. \t\n\t\nThe truth is that the Sounds are a pretty good value at other times (mainly because the ballpark almost never draws to even half capacity and the staff seems equipped to handle that). But avoid them like the plague on July 4th! I hope that if people ever do start coming to Sounds games in greater numbers, or if the downtown ballpark ever happens, that the Sounds management can get their ship together and make it a better experience. ...read more

I have known Kathy Harriman (owner) for over a year now, and David Batson (manager/designer) for over a year and a half. And during that time, I have visited their place of business on many occasions. I have seen the floral arrangements that are created there and they are simply.....AMAZING! Though the shop is smaller than most, you get your BANG for your Buck there. They continue to crank out some of the most beautiful floral pieces I've ever seen! I had a recent opportunity to help them out over the Valentine's Day Weekend! WOW!!! What a Production Event that was! I not only had the pleasure of creating some of the spectacular arrangements that went out, but had the honor to work alongside two very dedicated and talented individuals, (Kathy and David), and their staff. I have never witnessed such a vast variety of floral work produced in a three-day period. They worked with customers to accommodate their individual requests and make that day EXTRA-Special for their respective Someone Special. It was all hard work and everyone did their part. I can only imagine the look on some of the reciepients' faces that received the floral gifts that were created over that weekend and holiday. Not to be redundant, but Simply.....AMAZING!!!! I would recommend their floral designs over others I have seen over the years. Kathy, David, and their floral staff are committed and dedicated to producing only quality arrangements for their industry. You get something SPECIAL when you get something from Lenox Village Flowers. Not just in the product, but also in the service. Going the EXTRA Mile is what it is all about, and they HIT the Mark....Everytime!!!! Fantastic Job!!! ...read more

Wanted to extra nice to my wife for Valentines Day, as I am away in the Middle East working for the USAF. Ordered 18 roses and got 14. For the past 10 years, I typically ordered my flowers through FTD. They've never steered me wrong and their florist network always did a good job. Recently, I ordered from FTD two times for my girlfriend's birthday and this weekend's Valentine's Day. I had both orders shipped to her work. When I order via FTD, I always opt for the ""Best"" arrangement which adds several stems of flowers. You get an option of ""Normal"", ""Better"", ""Best"". The picture differences on FTD's website is supposed to give you an idea of what you pay for. My girlfriend always sends me pictures of the flowers I send her. For her birthday, the arrangement she received seemed nothing like the picture I got her. She had more stems than the default selection, but less than the ""Better"" arrangement. Letting it slide, I decided to order her flowers for Valentine's Day. The flowers she received today were awful. The flowers were fresh, but she only got 1/2 a handful of them... if even that. She was supposed to get at least 4-5 roses in addition to the other types but only got 3 roses with sparse dashes of other flowers. Needless to say, I called FTD. FTD normally does not give you the names of their affiliate florists because they want to deal with them directly. However, I somehow got FTD to spit it out and found out they were Lenox Village Flowers. Now I understand that all national network chains (FTD, Teleflora, 1-800-Flowers, etc) take a big chunk out of the profits that local florists make, but this is no excuse. You do not charge me $74.99 + $15.99 handling and then give me a product that does not meet the standards set by your network. The CSR for FTD had both myself and the florist on other lines and the florist offered to pick them up and send her another arrangement. I told the CSR that this was ridiculous because obviously it's less than 1 hour until my girlfriend comes home. So then FTD offered a $20 credit and 10% off my next order, but I didn't want that either. I just wanted to get the difference of what I paid and what was received. She was able to do that for me. Needless to say, this is the first time I got burned on my flower ordering experience. FTD explained that the florist affiliate they choose is based on location. I simply replied that when I had flowers shipped to her residence in the past, they were more than exceptional. I said I'd still order from FTD but I will never have flowers delivered to my girlfriend's work ever again because Lenox Village, the FTD affiliate for that area, skimps out on their arrangements. ...read more

7 Qualities of Top PR Firms

Top PR firms share many of the same qualities. These traits set apart a decent firm from a great one, and they are things to look for when you are wanting to choose a public relations firm that will excel in promoting your business.   1. Solid Reputation Top PR firms have a good reputation, both in the community and in media circles, brought on by years of experience. I don’t just mean hearing that so-and-so is a nice guy, but that reporters know they can count on certain firms to help produce an appealing article or segment that the target public cares about. Top PR firms know how to craft a story. They do not send out “fluff,” which can waste a journalist’s time and won’t get picked up anyway. On the contrary, these firms are experts in the skill of public relations and know what is newsworthy and relevant. The media is more receptive to pitches from a proven news source with a good reputation, and will in fact contact the PR firm for possible stories.   2. Excellent Media Relations Piggybacking on the above, a good PR firm will have relationships with journalists, editors, producers, on-air talent, freelancers and other people in various media positions. Great PR firms do their homework and create effective pitches that are tailored to the journalist and industry. They know who prefers to be emailed or tweeted or called. They know what makes an interesting TV segment or magazine article, and they present compelling pitches that get in front of the right people.   3. Proactive Partners Top public relations firms work with their clients as full-on marketing partners, becoming an extension of the company and team. Plus, great PR firms are proactive and don’t wait to be told what to do. These firms constantly evaluate marketing components, determine what works and why, learn about new options, generate ideas and present new tactics to their clients. Proactivity and partnership are interdependent: the PR firm and company work together to form a powerful marketing force.   4. Innovative Adaptability Marketing needs change for multiple reasons – time of year, new and expanded products or services, emerging social media platforms, etc. Top PR firms should be constantly learning and unafraid to try new tactics to generate results. That doesn’t mean being innovative just for the sake of being cool. But it means that PR firms adapt their services and offerings as markets and needs change. For example, many firms offer design services in addition to public relations, making them a full-service partner. It may involve incorporating inbound marketing, word-of-mouth, new technology or whatever it takes to meet and exceed marketing goals.   5. Persuasive Communicators This seems like a given, no? Top PR firms are able to convey ideas in a convincing manner, while customizing the viewpoint and style for each client as needed. Yet it’s more than just good storytelling. Being a skilled communicator also requires being disciplined, organized and detail-oriented. It means understanding what the client wants, taking complete notes and having a strategy for meeting the set goals, while following criteria from the publication and meeting deadlines. It means perseverance even when it’s difficult. All while wearing a smile.   6. Fierce Intelligence The common required element in each of these listed traits is to have above-average intelligence. Beyond common sense, top PR firms have whip-smart people that can interpret data, see trends and know how and when to act on it. Plus, they are constantly learning, taking in new information and growing in their knowledge base and profession. This also breeds creativity. Being able to use knowledge effectively leads to developing new and out-of-the-box ways to make things happen.   7. Passion Top public relations firms have people that are passionate about what they do. This translates into a deep drive, enthusiastic desire and internal motivation to help their clients succeed. Passion elevates marketing experience, technical skill and all the other qualities to yield exceptional results. Interested in working with a public relations firm?
