Hi Ms. Brodeur, I saw you a few years ago for a personal matter and I was wondering if you still do couples counseling for nontraditional relationships. Patty Beazley and Pam Herrera referred me to you. If you do not, can you recommend anyone? Thanks, Tammy Nash TNashvols81@yahoo.com or 615-419-8163 ...read more

Do NOT see Elizabeth Parks. I went to her because I was concerned about having a few hormone related breakouts. She recommended an arsenal of products (which are very, very expensive) and I was on my way. My skin was doing well until all of a sudden I started breaking out all of the time. I voiced my concern to her that maybe my skin was irritated and needed a break from some of the products she recommended. Elizabeth then proceeded to try to sell me more expensive product (including a $200 + Clarisonic PRO and insisted I should not change a thing. On my own, I tweeked my routine and my breakouts started disappearing. I immediately made an appointment with a different physician who sold the same products and learned that not only had Elizabeth oversold me on product, she had been telling me how to use them all wrong! Be weary of seeing Elizabeth. She scammed me and will probably try to scam you as well. ...read more

Natural Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Is Hormone Replacement Therapy Safe? Media has done a great job at exposing studies that show conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can lead to increased risk of cancer, stroke, and heart disease. As a result, many men and women experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance don’t know where to turn for help.  Natural BHRT provides a safe approach for effective hormone replacement therapy. So, where should you turn for help? Patients experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance such as hot flashes, irregular and painful periods, headaches, bone loss, memory loss, difficulty concentrating , decreased libido, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, decreased muscle mass, weight gain and mood swings should seek out a practitioner who treats these symptoms using a natural method - Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). With natural BHRT, the hormones are accepted by the body and act in the body as the hormones your system naturally produces. Synthetic hormones used in conventional HRT, like Premarin, Prempro, and Progestin is not naturally accepted by the body and may cause a host of adverse side effects. What about the US Preventive Services Task Force’s (USPSTF) recent recommendation to not use hormone therapy as the prevention for chronic medical conditions? The warnings are against using Estrogen and Progestin in the prevention of medical conditions. There is a big difference between Progestin and Progesterone. Remember the previously mentioned difference between HRT and BHRT? Progestin is a synthetic hormone, one I do not use to treat my patients. Progesterone is a Bio-Identical hormone for natural BHRT treatment that not only relieves PMS symptoms, anxiety, insomnia, and mood instability in many patients, but it also has preventative factors against estrogen dependent cancers (including breast cancer), cardiovascular disease, Osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and diabetes.  The USPSTF also does not recommend Estrogen for the prevention of chronic conditions in Post-Menopausal women and who have had a hysterectomy. Women have estrogen receptor sites throughout the body, not just in the uterus; therefore, there are many symptoms and chronic illnesses that would warrant the use of Estrogen Replacement. Again, Bio-Identical Estrogens (natural BHRT) should be used in treatment, and a woman should never be treated with Estrogen and not balance it with Progesterone, even if she no longer has a uterus. Natural BHRT utilizes Progesterone, which is needed to buffer Estrogen levels. Are hormones useful in the prevention of some chronic conditions? Yes, as long as they are natural Bio-Identical and they are used in the correct combination and doses.  Will hormone replacement cause cancer? Natural Bio-Identical Hormones do not cause Cancer. In some cases, as mentioned above, they can be protective against cancer. If a patient already has cancer, then natural BHRT may not be the best option.  Karen F. Treatment for Adrenal Dysfunction

I keep Hearing aboutAdrenal Fatigue…What is it and is that what’s wrong with me? Adrenal Fatigueis a buzz phrase that has really become more widespread in the past few years. I am getting more and more patients who not only know what Adrenal Fatigue is, but actually come in and ask me about it. So, what is Adrenal Fatigue? Adrenal Fatigue is Adrenal Insufficiency or Adrenal Hypofunction in the medical world, and it occurs in a patient when stressors exhaust the body's stores of glucocorticoids-the most important one being Cortisol. Your adrenal glands produce your stress hormones Adrenaline (Epinephrine) and Cortisol. Cortisol is your “wake-up” hormone. It should spike every morning telling your body that it is time to start the day. You should have your best energy in the morning and your Cortisol should reach lower levels throughout the day nearing bed time, when it should be at its lowest, and you should feel most tired. When you are under stress, your adrenal glands produce more Adrenaline and Cortisol. These are very useful when in a stressful situation such as out-running an attacking animal. In this type of stressful situation your body will go into a fight-or-flight state and produce Adrenaline and Cortisol. When under chronic stress, your body is constantly in a fight-or-flight mode, over-producing Cortisol and Adrenaline. When this occurs, you notice mid-section weight gain, sugar and carb cravings, and increased anxiety.  Eventually, the adrenal glands become fatigued and Adrenaline and Cortisol production drop off. When this happens, you may experience panic attacks, increased pain in joints and inflammation throughout the body, immune system dysfunction, difficulty sleeping, and decreased energy throughout the day. Many patients come to see me when they are in this phase of adrenal fatigue because they can no longer just “power through.” They feel anxious, they can’t sleep, they are dragging themselves out of bed in the morning, and they have very little energy to function throughout the day. Many want to lose weight, but they are still having cravings for either sugary or salty foods, or both, and they have no energy to exercise.  This sounds like you?  What can be done about it?  Let Wellness Solutions' Karen Hyden discuss your needs and prescribe a program to get you back on track today.  Heal your life!
