The city of Henderson, named for James Henderson, an officer in the War of 1812, is located near the Forked Deer River in Chester County, Tennessee, in the Jackson metro area. Major attractions include Chickasaw Golf Course and Gene Record Memorial Park, where you'll find picnic pavilions, a playground and soccer fields. Each year in September, the city celebrates its deep tradition in slow-cooked whole-hog barbecue during the Chester County Barbecue Festival. The biggest school here is Freed-Hardeman University. One of the best places to visit when you are in Henderson is Chickasaw State Park, which features walking trails, horseback riding, campgrounds, swimming and rustic cabins. A well-known resident of Henderson has included singer and songwriter, Eddy Arnold.
