To respond to the comment made by Mr. Weinber,I posted my review of him on Yelp.com and Angie's list.com,both are still available for anyone interested in reading what this man considers "hatefull and insulting".I stopped all communication with mr. Weinberg before he issued his refund,as I honestly did not wish to have any further contact with him.I resumed communication 10/1 when I found out he was using my name to post positive feedback about himself on other sites. It was not about the money in the begining, but after induring daily inappropriate emails from this man,I do feel the satisfaction of getting the refund,I never expected to get in the first place. ...read more

This is a followup to my previous review left for this man.I did not find him professional and chose not to continue past one lesson with him.Since than I have had to deal with a pile of emails, inappropriate and disturbing langage,as well as hours spent trying to get my money back for one unused lesson.Mr.Weinberg went to such distance as to use my name to write positive reviews for himself on other websites, such as Thumbtack.com and Yelp.com,as well as disclose personal information about my children on line.I have had to spend time contacting both of these websites, having his comments removed,as well as contacting local PD.I left a feedback based on my personal expereince with this man,who I would not recommend to anyone looking for a piano/voice instructor for their child. ...read more

Parents: Be Smart With Your Smartphones

Smartphones and how parents use them, were the topic of a recent segment on NPR. As educational partners with families, Tutor Doctor Franklin is always looking for relevant and valuable information for parents. NPR recently had a segment on smartphones and their effect on children; however, they took a different twist on this topic by reporting on research done as to the effect of parents use of smartphones in relation to their children. “Dr. Jenny Radesky is a pediatrician specializing in child development. When she worked at a clinic in a high-tech savvy Seattle neighborhood, Radesky started noticing how often parents ignored their kids in favor of a mobile device. She remembers a mother placing her phone in the stroller between herself and the baby. “The baby was making faces and smiling at the mom,” Radesky says, “and the mom wasn’t picking up any of it; she was just watching a YouTube video.” This was not a scientific study, Radesky is quick to point out. It was more like anthropological observation, complete with detailed field notes. Forty of the 55 parents used a mobile device during the meal, and many, she says, were more absorbed in the device than in the kids. Radesky says that’s a big mistake, because face-to-face interactions are the primary way children learn. “They learn language, they learn about their own emotions, they learn how to regulate them,” she says. “They learn by watching us how to have a conversation, how to read other people’s facial expressions. And if that’s not happening, children are missing out on important development milestones….” Here is link to the entire article and the audio from NPR. http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/04/21/304196338/for-the-childrens-sake-put-down-that-smartphone Next time you are checking your email or Facebook on your smartphone, please be aware of possible unintended consequences.
