I used her for my divorce. It was contested. It dragged on for more than a year. During this time I lost my job due to my ex spouse's harassment. You can imagine how tight my budget was. She was unable to assist me in seeing ANY of my 3 children from this marriage during most of that period. Nor speaking to them on the phone. I was subjected to sexual harassment, assaulted, and physically molested by him on multiple occasions. She was sympathetic, but ultimately unable to provide much help other than to refer me to the police department. It's difficult to obtain an order of protection so I just endured it. I could barely afford the original retainer of 1500.00. Susie (the secretary) sent an email stating I would have to pay another 1500.00 to continue Rebecca's services. I asked if she would accept partial payments. I was told in no uncertain terms NO partial payments, and then received a letter telling me that she was closing out the relationship, etc..... So I borrowed money and paid the full amount again, 1500.00. I did this KNOWING that it was practically over, but fearing being left without representation. And trust me Rebecca and Susie were aware of this fact. So a few weeks after everything's over I get a letter in the mail telling me everything is good, enjoyed serving you, etc... No mention of refund. I ask about it, and weeks later I receive a cheerful, "We were on vacation! And your retainer is nonrefundable per the agreement you signed. Thanks so much!" Maybe I'm naive. Maybe I should have known that in the contract I signed, that retainers are nonrefundable. BUT give me a break!!! To demand a full retainer and REFUSE to take anything less knowing full well you are going to take nearly all of it without earning it?!?! That's just robbery. It takes a special sort of person to keep money they didn't earn from an unemployed client with 4 kids and an autoimmune disorder that leaves them bedridden for weeks. Not to mention when I bit my tongue the time Rebecca deliberately drove my consultation time to 30 minutes while she casually watched over my shoulder at the clock. She asked me non case related questions about my job as a way to keep me talking. She thought I didn't notice her eyes flicking to the wall clock, but guess what? This client did. This client had been using her stopwatch feature on her phone. So in summation (ha), did Rebecca get me a divorce? Eventually (1+ year later). Did Rebecca answer all my questions? Mostly. Did Rebecca help me have contact with my children during more than a year of legal standstill? Not at all. Did Rebecca willfully take a new $1500.00 retainer she knew wouldn't actually be needed? Unequivocally, YES. So there you go. I may not have received a refund due to being FORCED into LEGALLY just giving this attorney money, but I can leave reviews that attest to what I experienced. ...read more
