Good hotel for visiting New Orleans
We stayed at the Sheraton on Canal Street the last time we were in New Orleans. (We booked on Hotwire.) The room was great, the gym was good and the rooftop pool hit the spot. The location was awesome, right next to the French Quarter an...

Attended a conference in July 2003. Our group was 400+ business women. We had scheduled our conference with the Sheraton more than a year in advance. My personal room was booked with a guaranteed reservation months ahead. When I arrived with four other ladies to check in, we were informed our rooms were not available. The clerk told us that a group that had checked in a few days before had decided to stay over. Consequently, they put groups of three and four women in rooms with one bed and others were moved to the Marriott Hotel. Management at the Sheraton told us our reservation only guaranteed a "room of some type" and that sleeping 3 to 4 people to a one bed room and moving others to another hotel was perfectly acceptable.\t\n\t\nDo yourself a favor and avoid the New Orleans Sheraton and other hotels managed by Starwood group.\t\n

I found nothing wrong with the place, except the express check-out and viewing of your account from the t.v. didn't work, but I didn't mention it until I checked out -- wasn't a big thing. This place is newly renovated and everything was clean and new and I especially loved the big soft down pillows. They have a nice gift shop, but hotel stores always sell their stuff for a lot more - their masks went for $9.95 whereas you can find it on Bourbon St. for $3.95. The hotel has a great location, walking distance to Harrah's casino, the Riverwalk, Bourbon St., and where you catch the St. Charles trolley. If it's not a busy time of year, ask for an upgrade; we did and got one, that made us like the place more.
