About Yankton, SD
Yankton, nicknamed "River City" because of it's location on the Missouri River, is the county seat of Yankton County, South Dakota. The city was named after the Yankton Indian tribe, part of the Sioux Native American Indian tribe. The city is host to the annual Yankton Riverboat Days event which includes activities such as a parade, golf tournament and a rodeo. South Dakota Magazine is headquartered in Yankton. The Weekly Dakotan started printing in 1861, and is still printed and circulated today. Students here attend the Yankton Public School District. Other schools here include Mount Marty College and the Sacred Heart Catholic School. Famous people with ties to the city include the NFL's Adam Vinatieri and former anchorman Tom Brokow.
