If iOS crashes, don't pay these scammers to get it fixed

Shared by: www.coastal-connection.com           Technology Support Services There’s a new-old elaborate scheme going around the English-speaking world, and this one targets Apple users and their wallets. According to a report by The Telegraph, iPhone and iPad users in the US and the UK have started getting pop-ups on their devices, telling them the iOS had crashed and that they need to call support in order to fix the problem. Of course, the pop-up offers the phone number which needs to be dialed which is, as you might imagine, not the real Apple support phone line. Scammers have targeted Safari, the default web browser for iOS devices, telling users in the US to ring the helpline and pay between $19 (£12) and $80 (£51) to fix it. Users in the UK have also reported the issue, with one saying they had been asked for £20 to fix the crash, The Telegraph says. When browsing Safari, users receive a notification saying: "Warning!! iOS Crash Report!!. Due to a third party application in your device, iOS is crashed. Contact Support for Immediate Fix". Some users said the pop-up had frozen activity on their browser. They are given one of a series of numbers to dial -- including 0800 279 6211, 0800 652 4895 and 0800 310 1061 in the UK. Users of the Apple support forum said that on dialling the numbers, they were told that a third party app was stealing their data, and demanded credit card details in order to fix it. The scam was first reported in the US in November last year but is still being used and has spread to the United Kingdom. In order to fix and block these crash reports, Apple says users should: Switch to Airplane Mode. Delete Safari Data: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Exit Airplane Mode. This is obviously a scam and users are advised not to dial the given number, and not to give the iCloud username and password, or bank details to anyone over the phone. www.coastal-connection.com Technology Support Services Chat with a Tech for FREE - https://tawk.to/Remote.Support ...read more

Bee Quickly Sends Emails from Any iOS App

iOS: The Share Extension makes it pretty easy to email contacts from any app in iOS, but you still have to go through a list or start typing a name. Bee allows you to create a favorite list so you can quickly tap and send an email. Once you set up Bee with your favorite contacts, you can tap the Bee Share Extension, select your contact, then email away. You can also group contacts together for group messages if you tend to send messages to a list. It’s a simple idea, but if you really use that Share Extension a lot, it makes it much quicker. You can check out how it works for free, but if you want more than one contact you’ll need to pay $1.99. www.coastal-connection.com Technology Support Services desktops-laptops-ipads-tablets-smart phones-Nationwide remote support Chat with a Tech for free - https://tawk.to/Remote.Support ...read more

Think Twitter is Just 140 Characters? Think Again

Twitter doesn’t just have to be about simple old tweets. There is a whole lot more you can do if you have the right apps.Facebook and LinkedIn both have official companion apps that let you do more with your accounts. You can use them to concentrate on Facebook Groups orLinkedIn Job Searches, for example. Twitter is a little different though. Aside from the original app, there are only a couple of official companion apps from Twitter. Luckily there are some third party apps you can use for a different Twitter experience — with media instead of the written word.MeerkatAvailable for free on both iOS and Android, Meerkat lets you stream live videos to your Twitter followers. The videos will show up in your followers’ feeds. So, if they also have Meerkat they can receive push notifications, retweet your posts, and interact with your tweets.Watchers can only see the live videos, so there are no replays. A recent update to the app provides users more stability for watching streams and you can watch those streams right from the feed. Meerkat provides a fun way to share your moments to Twitter.PeriscopePeriscope is one of the official apps mentioned above that was available only foriOS until a very recent Android release. Like Meerkat, but directly from Twitter, this app lets you stream live videos to your Twitter feed. The nice thing about Periscope is that your videos are available for replay for 24 hours after they have been posted. You can also make your broadcasts private, so only certain users can see them. You can even manage notifications and collect hearts from viewers who liked what you shared. There was an update recently bringing even more features such as a zoom-able map for viewing videos worldwide, instant access to Replays, and the ability to share the broadcast you are currently viewing. Periscope is a free app.TweetCasterTweetCaster offers a great way to improve your Twitter experience. You can use the SmartLists to organize your stream and Start Filters to quickly see links, photos, and videos. When uploading your photos, you can use cool photo affects, apply nifty filters, and even add funny captions. For iOS users, you can take media sharing even further with iTunes Music Sharing which includes purchase options. One of the best features of TweetCaster is Zip It which allows you to hide tweets without having to unfollow others. The app allows multiple Twitter accounts, posting to Facebook, and the ability to view conversation threads. TweetCaster is available for both iOS and Android and has both free and paid versions for each.Tweetings for TwitterAlso available for both iOS and Android is Tweetings for Twitter. This is a paid app with a free version for iPhone and iPod touch. This is another app that helps to improve your experience with plenty of useful features. How about sharing some fun animated GIFs in your tweets? A recent update to the iOS app now also provides for video uploading, although still in the beta stages. There is multiple photo support, a conversation view, customizable retweet options, and the ability to schedule a tweet. Tweetings for Twitter provides translations, lists, shortened URLs, a tweet exclusion filter, and can be used for multiple Twitter accounts.HootsuiteHootsuite lets you post on up to three social media networks for free. So, if you post simultaneously to Twitter and Facebook often, this is a good app for that. Although Hootsuite does not contain fun photo editing options, you canconveniently upload and share pictures to all accounts at one time. You can schedule your tweets and posts manually by choosing the date and time or use the auto-scheduling feature.URLs are shortened with the app’s service, Ow.ly, so that you can obtain statistics. You can select the streams you would like to see, for example, your scheduled posts, tweets sent, mentions, or home stream. Hootsuite is handy for multiple accounts and is available for the Web and both iOS and Android with upgrade optionsBufferSimilar to Hootsuite, Buffer lets you tweet and post to different social media networks at one time. You can schedule posts automatically including links, text, photos, and videos. If you want to make a cool quote really stand out on Twitter, Buffer has a neat tool you can use to overlay your text onto an image. Check out Pablo, and you’ll be sharing beautiful quotes in no time at all.Buffer provides statistics for retweets, mentions, likes, and shares so if you use it for business, this is an added bonus. A recent update to the app for Android includes Pinterest support. Just add your Pinterest account on the Buffer website and the app will take care of the rest. This is a great addition to the app, expecially for those of you who love sharing media. Buffer is available on the Web and also foriOS and Android with options to upgrade.TweetDeckTweetDeck is the other official app from Twitter and is currently only available for Mac and mobile apps, but can also be accessed via the Web. This is a free app that allows tracking of real-time messages. It is intended for heavy users, marketers, and publishers. It has a customizable layout and lets you tweet photos, links, and videos. You can monitor multiple timelines, schedule tweets, and use alerts and filters. Media previews are available by default and if you really love seeing media in your feeds, you can adjust the previews to be larger.________________________________________________________________Shared By. www.coastal-connection.comComputer Repair Service  Myrtle Beach SC, 29588 ...read more

Did You Know You Can Play Games On Your Apple TV?

Shared by www.coastal-connection.com It’s time to stop craning your neck over your iPad or iPhone and use mirroring to enjoy iOS games on your Apple TV instead. Whether you’re sick of peering at a tiny screen or simply want to enjoy some proper multiplayer games with a room full of friends, your Apple TV is your ticket to big screen fun! The Apple TV as a Games Console Astonishing as it may seem, your Apple TV is more than just a way to watch Netflix. It takes its role as media streamer extremely seriously, enabling you to stream not just music, video and photos, but games as well. To set this up, you’ll need an iPad or iPhone – or an iPod Touch – and a Wi-Fi network preferably configured to use the 802.11n band, which runs at 5GHz (Ethernet is also fine, depending upon which you prefer). For mirroring games, you should also have a suitable controller, an MFI (Made for iPhone) device like those produced by MOGA, although other methods enable you to connect game controllers to your iPhone (and not all games necessarily require a controller). You’ll also need some suitable games, which we’ll look at below. First, let’s set it up. Setting Up Apple TV for Mirroring Games Begin by checking your router or AirPort to confirm that the 5GHz option is set. Depending on your router, the steps required to do this will differ depending upon the manufacturer. If you’re using an Apple Mac, open AirPort Utility and select the device icon, then click Edit. Next, open the Wireless tab, look for Wireless Options and confirm a check is in the box next to 5GHz network name. Next, switch to your Apple TV. In the main menu, scroll down to Network to confirm that the media streamer is connected to the correct wireless network, and then confirm that your iOS device is also correctly connected. If you use Ethernet with your Apple TV, there’s no need to change this. With everything connected to your 5GHz wireless network, you’ll be ready to start playing. Note: While 5GHz is perfect for mirroring, it isn’t strictly required and you may have joy with a regular old 2.4GHz network. If your router doesn’t support the faster band, don’t worry, just skip the step above, and make sure your Apple TV and iOS device are connected to the same network. AirPlay & Mirroring Games To display the game you’re playing on your iPad or iPhone on an Apple TV, you’ll need to enable AirPlay. If you’ve already streamed the contents of an iPad media app to your TV through Apple TV (perhaps overcoming any related Apple TV streaming issues), then you’re probably already aware of this. If not, use the Apple TV remote to navigate to the Settings > AirPlay, and from here, set AirPlay to On. You’re now ready to start playing. Two types of AirPlay-compatible games are available for iOS. First, those with AirPlay support, which will create a Nintendo WiiU style dual display, showing the game on the TV and other useful information on the lower screen and using your iPhone or iPad as a game controller. If the game you’re playing doesn’t offer this, don’t worry. Almost all other games can be streamed through Apple TV to your television using AirPlay Mirroring. Both methods are similar, but you’ll probably need a game controller for AirPlay Mirroring. Start the game as usual, and when it is running, open the Control Center (slide up from the bottom of the screen) and tap on AirPlay. Next, tap Apple TV and Doneto complete. This will setup the dual-screen AirPlay streaming of Apple TV. For games without dual screen functionality, after tapping the Apple TV button, flick the Mirroring slider to on, then Done. ...read more

Sports Illustrated Super Bowl Squares

Sports Illustrated Super Bowl SquaresYou've got the big screen TV ready to go. You've got great food in the oven, you've watched old Super Bowl ads, heck, you've already seen some of the ads set to air this year,  What's the last thing you need to here are lots of fun Super Bowl party tricks you can try, like asking your Microsoft digital assistant Cortana who she thinks will win the game. But I found one more Super Bowl party game to try really make your Super Bowl party pop? Super Bowl Squares is pretty easy to play. It works like this: First, print out your 10x10 square grid from Sports Illustrated by clicking here. This gives you 100 squares to work with. Each team gets a side, in this particular grid, the Patriots are on the top and the Seahawks are on the left hand side. Next, assign numbers 0 though 9 at random to the first column and row and pass around the sheet to participants. From here, participants will put their name in a square (You can actually do this before or after your guests have picked their squares, depending if you want it to be completely random or have our guests make genuine guesses). Now you watch the game and wait for the results. DETERMINING A WINNER Rules will vary by household, but in general winners are picked at the end of every quarter, including the final score. Let's say the final score is Seahawks 24, Patriots 23, which is also the score of the last time the Patriots took on the Seahawks. The last number for the Seahawks is 4 and the last number for the Patriots is 3. The square that had the Seahawks at 4 and the Patriots at 3 would be the winner. See, it's not that hard! 2 killer ways to keep Facebook hackers out of your account

With the news full of stories about high-profile government hacking and security breaches at major corporations, I want to take a minute to remind you that hacking can still hit close to home. And I'm not just talking about your bank accounts. Scams and malicious links regularly pop up on Facebook. Remember a few years ago the scam where a "friend" would suddenly IM you on Facebook, saying she'd been visiting Europe and that her passport and purse had been stolen? They've gotten more sophisticated. Some of these can trick even the most cautious Facebook users. It's become commonplace to see "I've been hacked!" on your News Feed. You also want to make sure you're logging in to the real Facebook site. Hackers love sending phishing emails claiming to be from Facebook. They might tell you that someone posted a nasty comment on your profile or that there's a problem with your account. They'll give you a link to click which takes you to a fake Facebook page. If you login on that page, the hackers can immediately take over your real account. First up is Login Notifications. This lets you know anytime someone logs in to your account on an unfamiliar browser or gadget. Log in to your account and click the downward triangle (sometimes a round gear) at the top right of the screen. Choose Settings. In the left hand column of the Settings screen choose Security. Then next to Login Notifications, click the Edit link. You can choose to be notified by email or text messages, or both. If you choose text messages, you will need to give Facebook your phone number if you haven't already. Once you choose your method, click Save Changes. Login Notifications are a good security measure, but you can go even further with Login Approvals. Login Approvals is a two-step authentication system. It requires more than a password when logging in on a new browser or gadget. You have to also enter a passcode that Facebook sends to your phone. That way Facebook knows the person logging in is really you. Even if a hacker gets your account password, they won't be able to log in from a computer, smartphone or tablet Facebook doesn't recognize. To set up Login Approvals, Log in to your account and click the downward triangle or gear at the top right of the screen. Choose Settings. In Settings, go to the Security tab, and then next to Login Approvals click Edit. Check the box that says "Require a security code to access my account from unknown browsers." Then on the screen that pops up click the Get Started button. Follow the directions to link the Facebook app on your smartphone to your Facebook account. If you don't have the Facebook app, you can download it here. This process also works with non-smartphones using text messaging. Once you're done with Login Approvals, you account should be safe and secure from just about any attack. Facebook isn't the only company offering two-step authentication. Click here to set it up on Google, Microsoft and other big services. Of course, if you leave your computer turned on and unlocked, anyone can access your Facebook account without any trouble. You might still be logged in, or your browser might have saved your password. Learn how easy it is to see your saved browser passwords. If there are other people around, even family, I recommend locking your computer whenever you step away. In 2011, a study showed that one third of teenagers on Facebook have been hacked. Sometimes hackers were after personal information and sometimes they rigged the account to send out spam and viruses. If you don't think it can happen to you, think again. But what can you do about it? And if hackers get your personal information somewhere else, how would you know they're using  ...read more

Checking the download charts is a good start. Odds are if hundreds of millions of other people love a game, you will too. That's why I'm recommending this fun trivia game to you. It includes six categories: Science, Entertainment, Art, Geography, Sports and I'm not surprised that this app is so popular, because it's really fun. It's not really breaking any new ground, though; the game is very similar to the classic board game Trivial Pursuit. You don't have to worry about repeated questions, though, because over 2,000 new questions are added daily. History. Trivia Crack is very simple and easy to play with friends. Recycle Bin Tips

You see it there, lurking in the corner, but how does one exactly use the Recycle Bin? I am here to tell you how. Normally when you delete a photo or a file it is not really deleted, first it really only goes to the recycle bin. This gives you a second chance to change your mind and fetch it back in case you deleted it by mistake. Items in the Recycle Bin remain there until you decide to permanently delete them from your computer. These items still take up hard disk space and can be undeleted or restored back to their original location. When it fills up, Windows automatically cleans out enough space in the Recycle Bin to accommodate the most recently deleted files and folders. If you wish to retrieve a file from the Recycle Bin you may do so in two different ways. The first method, is to use the restore function built into the Recycle Bin. Select the files you wish to restore and then either click the Restore the selected items button on the top bar of the Recycle Bin window, or right click and select Restore. Alternatively, if you wish to restore every item currently in the Recycle Bin you can click on the Restore all items button at the top of the Recycle Bin window. Note that on Windows XP, these options are located on the left menu bar rather than on the top. It is important to note that when you use the Restore options in the Recycle Bin, the files will be restored to their original locations. For example, if you delete a file from the Desktop and then restore it, it will return to the Desktop. Firstly, you decide what you want to put in it. Then you click on it–only once, because if you do it more than that, then it will open and we don’t want that. Once you click it only once, you keep your finger on your mouse key and drag it to the Recycle Bin. Then you just drop it in. It will let you know when it is full, and when it is, you just double click on the Bin and press the “Empty Recycle Bin” button at the top. Then you are done. The pesky things are gone and you don’t have to deal with them anymore. Zero Day Virus. What you need to know.

So today I found a Zero Day Virus on a customer’s business computer. I am writing this blog article to tell you about the utmost importance of having me perform a security audit. I got called to a business today to perform routine updates. As part of my service duties, I check for viruses. What I found was surprising. This computer had a virus so new that no antivirus program would have detected it. The customer did not even know it was there. What is a security audit? While performing a tune-up, we uses a process explorer program to review all the running processes on the computer. This can reveal suspicious programs like viruses, malware, adware, trojans, etc. This technique is different than a virus scan. Most of the time we can detect a virus even before any anti-virus scan is run. What is a zero day virus and why would I care?A zero-day virus (also known as zero-day malware or next-generation malware) is a previously unknown computer virus or other malware for which specific antivirus software signatures are not yet available. It is a virus that cannot be automatically detected by any antivirus programs. Having your computer well protected is essential to prevent identity theft, protect your bank accounts from money theft, and prevent your computer from becoming infected by malicious programs. How did this virus evade antivirus programs? The virus installed it self into a local user folder. The (random).exe was a cloned copy of Google Chrome web browser with a specially crafted malicious browser extension (another random file). It then had a malicious dll loaded by regsvr32 at system start up to run chrome coupled with the extension by a specially crafted start command. The virus then begins it’s duties. This computer did not even have Google Chrome browser installed, the virus came bundled with it’s own hidden copy of Chrome. The virus was able to evade the antivirus because it’s process ran on the system as a digitally signed copy of Google Chrome. It ran in a strange out of place folder, not where Chrome normally resided in program files. The antivirus just thought it WAS Google Chrome and nothing else. I was not fooled however, I noticed the strange path it was running in, then verified it was a virus connecting to web sites on it’s own. I swiftly deleted the startup command dll, killed the processes, then deleted the virus files and folders. I continued on with the tune-up where I installed Critical Windows Updates and updated all the web programs.
