Clean Fresh Water

The average household's leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year and ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. Common types of leaks found in the home are worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and other leaking valves and connections. Fixing easily corrected household water leaks by qualified plumbers can save homeowners about (10%) ten percent on their water bills which would be like money down the drain. Remember only about 1% of the water on the earth’s surface is usable for human consumption, therefore water conservation from all of us is critical to our survival. So how bad can a leaky faucet really be? Well, a slow drip can waste about 7-10 gallons of water per day, adding up to more than 3,600 gallons of water per year. This simple small leak can cost you about $20 per year. A more significant faucet leak can produce 30 to hundreds of gallons of wastewater per day. The average costs of these fast dripping faucets will end up costing you $60 to $200 per year.   If every American household had one dripping faucet it would be about 1000 gallons of water wasted per year. If we all tried to change a habit with just one of these issues think of how much fresh, clean water would be saved on the entire earth. Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter changes at all, you probably have a leak. A licensed local plumber can help you with that too. Identify toilet leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If any color shows up in the bowl after 10 minutes, you have a leak. (Be sure to flush immediately after the experiment to avoid staining the tank.) Old and worn washers and gaskets within faucets and valves deteriorate over time and frequently cause leaks in faucets. A leaky faucet that drips at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. That's the amount of water needed to take more than 180 showers! A shower head leaking at 10 drips per minute wastes more than 500 gallons per year. That's the amount of water it takes to wash 60 loads of dishes in your dishwasher. . The most common cause for a high water bill is running water from your toilet. A continuously running toilet can waste up to 200 gallons a day. That can double a families typical water use, so fix toilet leaks ASAP! A constantly running toilet may waste about eight gallons per hour, or 200 gallons per day, left unnoticed it could waste over 6,000 gallons per month. Depending on the rate you pay for water and sewer, this could cost you an additional $70 per month assuming you only have one running toilet. Running the dishwasher half full (wastes 320 gallons per year) Leaving the tap open when you brush your teeth (wastes 8 gallons per day) Letting the water run for five minutes while washing dishes by hand (wastes 10 gallons every time) Failing to fix a broken sprinkler head (wastes an average of around 2,400 gallons per month) ...read more

2010 Clemson Home and Garden Show

After a long weekend of praying for the wave of un-ending visitors we had hoped for, all of us at C&L; Services Heating and Air Conditioning are taking some time to reflect on the disappontment the show turned out to be. None of us know for sure why the show was unsuccessful. A few idea that vendors were tossing around amidst the boredom were: Not enough advertising, No structure, No "one" person was in charge of it all... All we know is, whatever the cause was, it sure needs to be fixed. Vendors like us plan for these shows all year. We spend long hours prepaing to make sure that every detail is in place. After this weekend, when the day is done and all the hope had gone, all we have to show for it is a mound of unused promotional items, an empty appointment notebook, and a solemn feeling inside wondering why we wasted our time. In this economy it's tough to take that feeling of failure, but in this case, We know why we wasted our time, and it wasn't a waste at all... We do it for our customers. Over the years C&L Services has had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful folks. We take pride in the friendships we have made, and treat each and every customer as a member of our family.  It's the hope of growing our family that we spend this time preparing for shows, In hopes of educating people on the fun and exiciting world of Heating and Air! (It's "fun" to us anyway :)) Each new Installation or Service Call is a new adventure that involves, furnaces, and heat pumps, and filters, and thermostats... It may not sound like a glorious job to most, but to us, It's our livelyhood and we all take it very seriously. It's the excitement of these new adventures that keep not only us in the HVAC industry, but in any Home Improvement field hoping and praying for a great Home Show. Unfortunately for all of us that were at the Clemson Show this past weekend, that wasn't the case. But that doesn't mean that we will stop hoping or looking for new adventures. Our many thanks to all that came out to support the local vendors at thsi years show. It was nice to see some old familiar smiling faces. ...read more
