Holy Zion Church Inc

This is our (my daughter and I) eighth week at Holy Zion Church located at Bath Street down town Providence. It is also our third year in Rhode Island. We have visited many churches since we arrived Rhode Island and none has been as fulfilling as Holy Zion Church. A small family-like church but within which you feel the strong presence of the Lord. The music, word of God, and spiritual atmosphere is too powerful to resist. Pastor Donovan and his family, the deacons and Christians are just the kind of people you want in your live. I am so thankful I finally found this church and thank my friend for mentioning it to me. I have realized that the advertisments about churches are not enough to get you to the right church. You can find great churches that do not have fancy advertisements through friends and probably through reviews like the one I am doing now. I recommend this church to anyone who is interested in a church that inspires and encourages.cma ...read more

Salvation Army

1.0

By jwoods121 at Citysearch

To begin, if you are looking to become employed by Salvation Army, here are some good reasons as to why you should reassess that thought:\t\nManagement (2 out of 3 managers) is completely and undeniably under qualified to run even the smallest, simplest retail store. They are rude, unprofessional and downright unhelpful. If you buy a piece of electronics, BEWARE, they are not tested properly and about 50-60% of what is put out to be bought is BROKEN. You will not be given a chance to refund or exchange your purchase, despite bringing in the item as proof with your receipt.\t\nMost miscellaneous items are priced higher than you would buy them new. Furniture (some pieces in terrible condition) is priced ridiculously. \t\nIf I could choose two words to describe this establishment, they would be: MISLEADING and MONEY-HUNGRY. \t\nThe items you donate, they receive at little or no cost at all and sell them for double, or sometimes, triple the value. I'll bet you're reading this saying: Well, then don't shop there. I don't anymore. \t\nThe thrift store employees are paid next to nothing to juggle a myriad of tasks and pick up the slack for their clueless managers. \t\nIn short, the Salvation Army is a radically evangelical Christian organization that uses their beneficiaries as a cleaning and cooking staff while teaching them to be less dependent on drugs and alcohol and more dependent on God (which is great! good for you guys!). They hire people by the handful and pay them the very minimum to do exhausting, frustrating and sometimes disgusting tasks, knowing full well they are dispensable. What do they care if an employee quits? They've got a line a mile long of people willing to let themselves be treated like dirt by these racist (YES, they really are), sexist and homophobic DOUCHEBAGS.\t\nThanks, and think twice before you shop at and/or donate to the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Pitman Street in Providence. ...read more

Developing an Attitude of Gratitude

The Bible always reminds us of how wonderful our God and Father is, yet we often seem to run out of things to express gratitude for. It's not that we run out of things to be grateful for, as much as it is that we have not developed a habit of expressing gratitude. Isn't it interesting that we can pray for the same thing over and over again, but once God answers our prayer we thank Him once, if we remember, and feel that we cannot continually thank Him for the same thing? Why not? Is there anything that remotely suggests that anywhere in scripture? No, there is not. As a matter of fact, the Bible is replete with reminders of all that God did for His people, encouraging thanksgiving every time they remembered God's faithfulness and goodness. Let us develop an attitude of gratitude, and acquire this new habit if being profusely grateful, toward God and each other. I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for allowing me the privilege to pastor Mount Hope Community Baptist Church. I know of no other Church that is so loving and kind. You, as the people of God, have been so wonderful to my family and me, that there are no words to describe how I feel about being part of this beautiful family. As the apostle Paul said "I thank god in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now." (Phil. 1:3-5) I will end with Psalm 100 as an example of how we ought to think of our God and Father. Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth. Serve the LORD with gladness;Come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the LORD Himself is God;It is He who made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving And his courts with praise.Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations.
