My beloved dog Madison passed away unexpectedly yesterday. PALS was referred by my vet. They came in less than an hour to pick her up and were more than hospitable and merciful to me and my teenage daughter. My dog's remains were ready in less than 24 hours and returned to me. I travel to the Altoona area at least 3 times a year,to photogragh trains,of all things.I naturally go through Portage,as I "chase" trains,and found this wonderful store years ago,during my travels.You can find virtually everything under its roof...from salads to motor oil to clothing,and remarkable prices,the staff is first rate,and the store has a "ol time" charm,you don't find today.I love this place,and you would be shocked at the number of items I take back 1100 miles to Bradenton,Fl.....way to go Stagers !!! ...read more

While Rd's has 525 flavors of wings, many of them are odd flavors (like Spicy Strawberry). The food came out cold and had to be sent back, they got our order completely wrong, and our waitress was about as brainless as a sack of rocks. Their fries were good, as long as you got the original (the garlic fries consisted of regular fries with garlic salt sprinkled on them). The bar is in a dive of a building and cleanliness is questionable. I would, under no circumstances, recommend this place to ANYONE! This used to be a good place with quick service and helpful employees, but the attitude has gotten worse over the past few years, ever since they moved into their new store. Do not go there during the weekday mornings - the morning manager is just plain nasty - I asked her for a pack of smokes I saw, she said they were out, I pointed them out to her, and she just scowed at me, like I was wrong for correcting her. The coffee has the consistancy of 10W-30 motor oil and getting an MTO might as well involve an act of congress. In my 62 years of life it was the worst wedding reception I have ever been to. The food was canned green beans, frozen stuffed cabbage, instant mashed potatoes, some kind of beef (shoe leather), ect. But the worst! They chased the bridal party out of their seats and dismantled the bridal table and took away the table and chairs and back ground decorations to open it up for the dancing. They cut the cake and folded it into napkins and stacked them on a tray for the bridal dance. No one else got cake who was at the tables. Nothing like cake and icing stuck to a napkin. How cheap can you get? Paper plates by the gross are not that expensive! They had 10 or more empty tables up against the wall. The bridal party sat in the back of the room at one of the empty tables like second hand citizens in the near dark room. I recently had to have my precious pet, Putter, put to sleep and PALS was recommended for the cremation. I couldn't have asked for more compassionate and caring people to deal with during this difficult time. When I picked up my Putter’s remains, I was given a beautiful bronze container with the words "Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge; just beautiful! I was also given a personalized Cremation Certificate. Knowing that my Putter was in the presence of these caring individuals, to prepare him for his journey home, has given me a true sense of comfort. God Bless Them! ...read more
