Wit or Witout Cheesesteaks
By stirgy May 20, 2015
Their steaks are decent. Toasted roll, melty American cheese (I never eat Whiz on a steak!), fried onions, with some hot peppers if I'm in the mood. The meat is not shredded, it's slab style beef. Usually, fresh and tasty. However, their prices are high for a sandwich. Last time I had one (which was over a year ago), I think they were about $7. There are better steak shops in Philly - actually, the choices are MANY, but Wit or Witout makes a pretty good steak. One of my favorite places for a great cheesesteak is The Dining Car - a few miles north of Wit, also on Frankford Ave. Their Cheesesteak Royal platter comes wit fries, pickle and slaw - all for about $8. ...read more

Lanci Bakery - We're Back
When Angelo retired in 1970, his youngest son, Raymond took over. In a late 1970’s interview for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Ray said, “People ask me what’s the secret of my bread and I tell them the secret is – no secret! Our bread is made with flour, water, yeast and salt, that’s all. No sugar, no shortening, no milk, no preservatives, no emulsifiers, no chemicals. I bake the way my father taught me and his father taught him.” When Raymond’s oldest son, Larry took over in 2012, he swore to the four generations before him and the two youngest generations of Lanci Bakers, that he will follow the family traditions - making the same Fine Italian Artisan Breads that are always Baked with Love!We are still located at 1716 Jackson St, Philadelphia PA.
