Cyclorama Opens at the Gettysburg National Military Park
For those of you who have been to Gettysburg before, there is a new reason to return. Even if you have been here in the last few months to see the new Museum & Visitor Center, a return visit should be in your future. The Cyclorama Painting was unveiled Friday, September 26. Having viewed the painting prior to the and during the restoration, my first experience Saturday evening made my jaw drop. It was amazing! Until you have seen this painting in its full glory, you have not seen Gettysburg. The light and sound program combined with the new diorama brings the painting to life. You truly are standing amidst the Union line on July 3, 1863 as Pickett's Charge takes place around you. The painting, conserved by Olin Conservation of Great Falls, VA and a team from Poland, is now seen in such great detail and clarity that you feel part of the painting.
