Duncansville is a borough in Blair County, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Altoona, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The borough is one of several that comprise the Altoona Urban Area. The population was 1,238 as of the 2000 census. The area was settled by Samuel Duncan in 1830, and he quickly plotted out plans for his town. A rival local by the name of Jacob Walters was at the same time laying out plans for his town, Waltersville, and the two men quarreled over what this plot of land should be called. They flipped a coin, and Duncan won the toss, prompting Walters to move his plans across the river and settle his town, Waltersville, on a neighboring plot of land. A small wooden bridge separates the boroughs to this day. The biggest schools in Duncansville are Foot of Ten Elementary and Allegheny Elementary. Penn State University-Altoona is located 7 miles away.
