Paul's Computer Repair Services

5.0

By ken bolf

Since I have known Paul for five years and have taken several computer-reoated classes from him through Linn-Benton Community College's Community Education, I he was the first one I turned to when my pc developed some problems. Paul gave me a thorough explanation of the problems (even showing me the damaged capacitors) , and he gave me an estimate on the cost of repairs. In light of the costs, I decided to have Paul build me my new pc. He led me trough ech of the component options and explained the function of and cost for ech. I ordered the computer on a Thurday and had it in my home by Monday. In short, Paul has the tech know-how, keeps up with current tech innovations, knows how to explain problems and, solution, etc. in common terms, and is a very convivial person in his business communications. You can't go wrong by hiring Paul. Ken Bolf Oregon ...read more

RadioShack

The Lebanon Radioshack does not ever get overly crowded, but they still seem to always be there if you need them. It is not a place that I have to go very often, but when I need something specialized that a normal store would not carry, I ... ...read more

Internet Explorer 8 is coming.. but don't rush... yet

Don't get too excited... yet... IE8 is still available as a BETA program, so if you download it and install it, you do that at your own risk. BETA RC1 (Release Candidate 1) means it is almost ready to go public, but there are still some bugs to work out.We have downloaded it here and tried it out. It is quite a bit different, and like a lot of the Microsoft new products, it is trying to do a lot of stuff, and I am not sure how well it is going to “help” out or be better. We also found several features that were different and some that did not work at all. Things like cutting and pasting from MS Word to a web browser was not working on the Blogspot site. There is a “compatibility mode” which will allow older style websites work with the new browser. Better Security is one of the big areas they focused on, to keep us safer online. The other thing is usability, which is always different for each person. The Tabbing feature on the new IE8 is a lot more like FireFox now. One neat feature is that it asks you if you want to close all tabs, or just one of them.I highly recommend you wait until IE8 has been released to the public in the final version, and then wait a few more months. My guess is, towards the end of the year. If you get a windows update telling you to download it, I would say no to IE8 at this point.I will do some more testing and have a more thorough review in the next couple of months, and I will keep you updated.Paul ...read more

What to do with those old 35mm Slides

My dad is an awesome man and I have inherited many of his talents and interests. A couple of those are his love and curiosity of how things work, troubleshooting and fixing stuff including computers. Another is the love of photography. My dad was in the navy in World War II and he was a radar repair technician, and because his equipment was always in good working order, he had a lot of free time on his hands. So he took a camera and recorded life on his ship. He even created a darkroom on the ship, in a spare room. Needless to say, we have a lot of photos in the Aziz archive!I remember as a kid in the 60’s dragging out the old screen with the sparkle finish, and the sound of the ziiiiiip when the screen rolled up and connected to the hook on the top. Then there was the projector, when it worked. You had to test to make sure the bulb was working, and heaven forbid if you moved the projector when it was hot, there goes another bulb! How about the stuck slides and the shots that showed upside down or sideways on the screen? It is one of those memories I love, but what a pain in the neck it always was. Unfortunately, no one in my family has seen most of those slides for 20 or more years. This past year, I undertook the project of scanning in 2,000 of my father’s slides taken from 1958 to around 1978. I also scanned in another several hundred of slides I took in the 80’s&90’s.I purchased a professional quality Nikon Coolscan 5000ED to do this project, with the intention of perfecting the process, and then offering the service to others who don’t have the equipment or time to do this.I am now offering 35mm slide scanning services, and the price is very reasonable, and the quality is super high. I have added a page to my website explaining the services, the prices and I answer a lot of the questions you might have. You can clickSlide Scanning Servicesto see more on my website. ...read more
