Fabricated reasons to retain half of my purportedly refundable security deposit, including: charging for cleaning blinds, despite the fact that they had already charged a non-refundable blind cleaning deposit; for "paint touch up", despite the fact that I touched up the paint myself; and "touch up cleaning", despite the fact that I cleaned the apartment very thoroughly. As far as I am concerned their conduct was simply an extremely thinly-veiled act of fraud designed to shift some of the unavoidable maintenance costs of managing the property to their tenant. It is their prerogative to shift these parts of theirs costs of doing business to their tenants in this way, but it is despicably dishonest to continue to pretend that all of the deposit they collect is in fact refundable.
