When purchasing for an office on a budget, there are some tips and things to consider. 1) Find case goods (desks, tables, etc) that have ball bearing suspension in the drawers, a 3mm edge, durable laminate construction, and a warranty. 2) If it comes unassembled, go ahead and pay the extra to have the dealer assemble and deliver it. Trust me, this is not an area where you want to try and save. Let the professionals do what they do best! One obvious advantage is that if they drop it or damage it while assembling it, they will have to replace or fix it, not you. If you damage it while trying to assemble it, it will be a much bigger hassle to take it back, get the correct parts, etc. If it has not been assembled by a professional, some parts may not be covered under warranty so you will end up spending more. 3) Make sure it is a collection that is going to be around so that later you can add coordinating pieces as your company expands. When you are in the purchasing process, ask how new the line is and if it is going to be around for awhile. If the vendor keeps adding pieces to the line, that is always a good sign! 4) See if the dealer offers a trade in program so that later you can upgrade your office furniture for something nicer. 5) If the office furniture is being used heavily, you may consider going to metal over laminate or a combination. Even if you have to go used to keep within your budget, you will be much happier in the long run when the desk doesn't fall apart in 6 months.
