Disney Cruise line will sail out of Galveston, New York and Seattle

Disney to sail out of New York, Seattle and Galveston next year  Disney Cruise Line ships will sail from three new ports in 2012: New York, Seattle and Galveston, Texas.Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz said, "In 2012, we're making it easier than ever for families to enjoy a Disney Cruise Line vacation by offering cruises from a variety of regional homeports."Fleet expansion is enabling Disney to sail out of ports other than Port Canaveral, Fla., Holz said. The Disney Dream entered service in January, and a fourth ship, the Disney Fantasy, is scheduled to launch next April."We have a long term relationship with Port Canaveral, and we're excited about being there," Holz said. "But having more ships allows us to take our brand of cruising to more people around the globe."Asked if Disney considered other ports in addition to New York and Galveston, Holz said Disney looked at New Orleans, Tampa, Baltimore and Boston."The possibilities are open when you're looking at opportunities," he said. "But Galveston, and especially New York, were great places to expand this business. We took a look at all of them, but Texas and New York were our top choices, and we were able to enter into arrangements that just made a great deal of sense for us."Beginning May 25, 2012, the Disney Magic will sail a total of 20 cruises from New York, including eight-day cruises to the Bahamas and five-day cruises up the New England coast to Canada.Eight Bahamas cruises out of New York will include a day at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, and a stop at Port Canaveral, giving passengers an opportunity to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. As part of this itinerary, each passenger will receive a one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket and roundtrip transportation between the ship and the resort.New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Disney¿s presence in New York will bring an estimated 45,000 additional embarking passengers into the city, resulting in an estimated $11 million in direct spending. The Magic will sail 12 seven-day cruises from Galveston to the Western Caribbean, starting Sept. 22, 2012. Ports of call include Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel.Beginning May 28, 2012, the Disney Wonder will sail a total of 14 seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle. Ports of call include Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan as well as Victoria, British Columbia.Starting this May, Disney is operating Alaska cruises for the first time. The Wonder will sail out of Vancouver."When you look at the Pacific Northwest, there are really only two choices," Holz said. "This gives us the opportunity to see which one the guests really want. I wouldn't discount the possibliity that we might go out of Vancouver again. It'll be interesting to see reactions to Seattle as well. All possibilities remain open."The Wonder is scheduled to continue sailing seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles for the majority of 2012 ¿ throughout winter, spring and fall.Additionally, the Wonder will sail four seven-day Pacific Coast cruises from Los Angeles (on Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7), visiting San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. And for the first time, the Wonder will operate one 15-day voyage to Hawaii from Los Angeles, visiting the Big Island, Oahu, Maui and Kauai.Until it is repositioned to New York, the Disney Magic will sail out of Port Canaveral on seven-day Caribbean itineraries and four- and five-day Bahamian cruises. ...read more
